Good platform; would give five stars if I could upgrade on my MacBook Pro to another tier level.
Despite deleting and redownloading app, sadly Carrot Weather no longer opens on MacBook Pro!
Love this app on iOS, but it is a mess on my Mac. The menu bar icon is frequently unresponsive when I click on it, and when I try only using it as a dock app, it often doesn't open the main window no matter how often I restart. When it works though, it's great.
App looks nice BUT if you want it to run in the background and be able to access it through the top menu bar it will NOT work unless the app is open on your docks. So i have to open the app before i can click the icon on the menu bar to have access to it. Very unhappy with functionality. When i wanted to subscribe to premium it continues to say error message.
I can't believe I paid $15 hoping I'd have something better than free weather service. There was a severe thunderstorm and this app thought it was overcast. You only get very basic radar information unless you pay a monthly fee (not what I was hoping for). If you're looking for an interactive game like experience, this is it. If you're looking for in depth weather information, look eleswhere; it's often free (with ads).
Ever since the new version came out for Catalina, the app has suffered relibability issues. The menu bar icon never updates, clicking the menu bar icon only works if you have the Dock icon enabled, etc. The iOS apps are still phenominal, so it must be a catalyst issue, but after several updates to the app, progress hasn't been made with the above mentioned bugs.
Ever since upgrading to Catalina, the app seems to crash pretty often.
I like that Carrot Weather can show me the current weather condition and Feels Like temperature in my menu bar. Unfortunately, that feature is unreliable at best, just like the rest of the app. When Carrot launches on startup with my Mac, the menu bar item is blank until I click on it. Then nothing happens and it stays blank. Once I eventually get the menu to come out, it shows the weather for the north pole until I can get the main window open. After a few minutes of closing quitting and reopening Carrot it will eventually understand that I do in fact have a network connection and finally just show me the temperature.
Carrot's fantastic, as long as you've got the sense of humor for it. I've deleted all my other weather apps. For that, I'm sure Carrot would spare my life another few days.
Bought Carrot as the first Catalyst app as soon as macOS Catalina came out because I was looking for a nice, simple menu bar weather app. Carrot seemed to fit the bill and had great reviews to boot. A few months in, however, and it's just been a frustrating mess. Plus one star for actually showing the weather. Plus another one for the wonderfully snarky comments (which this meatbag loves). Minus three stars, however, for the fact that it just won't stay running. No matter what, when I want to see the weather it's just not there. It doesn't load upon boot like it's supposed to. It doesn't stay running during a work session like it's supposed to. Inevitably I have re-launch it to see the weather which kind of defeats the purpose of having the weather in my menu bar. I've never seen another menu bar-based app just stop running as much as this one. And, sometimes the pop-down window will just get stuck and not go away without me force-quitting the entire app. Overall, it just feels like a half-baked app. If the developer fixes the issues I'll be thrilled to have it, but as it stands I'm a little peeved I paid for this buggy mess. As always, your mileage may vary, of course.
