Excellent, accessible resource for meditation, wisdom, and support for peaceful self-inquiry. I have a couple of close friends/family who also have the app and the annual subscription/membership (whatever it’s called) and that amplifies the benefit. Beyond the meditation challenges that enable you to be linked with your circle of friends, sometimes we will text each other a meditation one of us really enjoyed and that fulfills a need for companionship and shared experience. I have used 10% happier since before the pandemic. I use it daily. I absolutely love it. I also love the updates made recently within the app. However, the app is more and more unstable on my phone. I listen to the podcast in the app and often it would just freeze. I have to close out the app and open it again to continue listening. The app really keeps my place where I left off within the podcast, whether it froze up or not. When listening to a meditation, if I need to pause the meditation, often it’s just unresponsive. Sort of like a little mini freeze. Sometimes I have to close the app and reopen it to get it to work. This did not used to be an issue but sometime within the last two years it started happening and it seems to be getting worse. I have an iPhone with all the recent updates. Would be really nice if the app wouldn’t freeze and would keep my place in the podcast.
Ten Percent Happier has some wonderful teachers (Sebene, Joseph G. , Sharon Salzberg) and I really like Dan’s friendly, honest and down to earth intros. I do wish there were some longer guided meditations. They all top out at 10 minutes I think, and many are shorter than that because the teacher will provide an overview before the meditation starts. It can be jarring to be called out of a meditation after only about 8 minutes. TM meditation is 20 minutes twice a day; I know that guided meditations are entirely different and I’m not advocating necessarily for 20 minutes, but I do think that offering some longer meditations would be very beneficial.
