Prices go up, stability goes down. I've been using this app for two years and have relied upon it ever since my #1 choice of calendar app went the way of the dodo. In any case, over the last couple of months strange behavior has crept in: Zoom meetings no longer are sent, meeting invites are held up in email limbo, time zones act strange, meetings disappear in the app but show up just fine in GCal. The last straw was reaching out to support, only for them to send me KB info on how to add calendars. I can't rely on this app anymore, which is such a shame.
I never really understood the appeal of Fantastical until I had multiple calendars I needed to gather in one place from Google, Microsoft, and Apple. The program is very stable and syncs reliably. After years of struggling to make things work in Google or Apple Calendars I am enjoying having it all work easily in one place where I just don't have to think about it much. This app is worth it.
Fantastical is a great app, and I really like the ability to switch between calendar sets—between work, family members, and organizations, I have a *lot* of calendars. However, I don't use many of the other advanced features, since I have to use Outlook for work—I work in hospital IT, and data security / HIPAA compliance are critical. I'd love to be able to approve all the requests we get for Fantastical integrations, but that just isn't going to happen. That said, I had a hard time swallowing the old subscription price, and the recent price bump is just too much on a yearly basis. I'd be happy to pay $20-$30/year for calendar sets and sync, but I can't justify $60ish/year for just those. Maybe Fantastical can offer a middle tier for people like me who use calendar sets but don't need all the other features. That, or they can teach Microsoft how to write a decent calendar program.
First of all Fantastical is a very good calendar app, perhaps the best out there. One thing I have been missing for sometime now is a status indicator. ie; done, postponed, canceled. Support answered my question about this with "if it's done, just delete it". What happened is almost as important as the what is scheduled.
Ever since Sunrise shut down I've been a user. I loved Sunrise but Microsoft destroyed it and left me looking for a new option. When I found Fantastical I immediately switched. I am still astonished in 2023 they haven't built a web version but I think the apps are good. My issue is that every time I set up a new computer I get to relive the set up of Fantastical. Still, it's more than worth it. Great app that makes calendar management a breeze. I manage about 10 calendars at any time with it.
Removing existing functionality in order to push users towards a subscription isn't a very good business plan. As a purchaser & user of this app for years I don't appreciate having core functionality removed, nor do I appreciate having upsell cruft shoved in my face.
This Calendar app is by far the best utility in the app store.
Most everything about Fanastical is great. The one glaring flaw is that events can not be created where the start and end times of an event can be made indicating separate time zones. For those who travel to a different time zone, this is an incredibly helpful feature in Google Calendar that is missing in Fantastical .
If Apple Calendar doesn't meet your needs, you can't go wrong with the great functionality of Fantastical.
This application is great. Fantastic-al if you will. However, having paid for the full version of this app when it originally came out, only to have an update turn it into a subscription model (taking features away) has really frustrated me. The price started out at $4.99/month. Which is reasonable, I get it. Devs need to make a living too. But, now it's jumped up to $6.99/month for no additional features. I'm already being nickeled and dimed in every other aspect of my life. I don't need this from a calendar app. Especially one I paid full price for at one point.
