The time estimates are a joke. You basically need to double them as a rule of thumb. I know all cooking guides do this to an extent but NYT is the worst offender that I’ve found. I do enjoy the collections and find inspiration daily. The price is high but I bundle with the other times Apps.
Content is great. App is janked. So hard to stay logged-in across devices. And why would you perform ‘site maintenance’ on a cooking app... from the New York Times... on a Sunday afternoon... in New York City... ?
I log in with my nyt I’d, but get no content. Deleted. Back to old-fashioned web browsing
I love this app. The photos, the searching, the blurb at the start of each, the ability to save... it's beautiful and well laid out. One request to the developers: can you make the Apple Watch app not rotate when you move your wrist? I love the shopping list functionality, but when I’m at the store it keeps turning the screen 180 degrees and then back and so on.
Recipes occasionally are missing an ingredient in the ingredients list that appears in the recipe. List of “x” number of favorites have fewer recipes. Selecting filters can jump you to your favorites instead of whittling down the general selection you’re trying to work with.
I read previous review. Used to use this app All the time. Loved it even though I have nyt cookbook! Got too difficult getting in,staying in, so don’t use now. SAME with nyt paper! I put in name and password and 3-4 minutes later wants me to sign in again! Sometimes it then lets me in, sometimes Not! Hooey
I am so grateful to this app because it’s taught me to cook delicious and healthy food. If you want to know both the basics (how to cook a good pot of rice) and the more elaborate (stupendous capanada) it’s here for you. I use this to plan my week’s meals. Worth the subscription price. Recipes easy to follow and the comments section is super helpful.
This app is no longer user friendly. You are not able to filter recipes down to find a recipe to use. It’s not worth paying for. I tried to search for a side dish recently and rather than coming up with something it gave me 20,000 recipes. I love that I get lots of recipes but my search didn’t narrow anything down. The app limits you in filtering. I’m not vegan but maybe I want veggies so I’m not gonna select vegan. I want to cook stuff in bacon fat!
I actually replaced my Cooks Illustrated subscription with recipes from this app. I am doing fine! Very happy.
This is actually a decent app but it suffers from the same large, ugly and intrusive ads that the NYT web site and app have. I understand placing ads in a free version but for $40 per year the app should be ad free. It would also be nice to be able to edit the keywords associated with the recipes.
