Easy to sell and buy without any scams. LITERALLY NO ONE WILL GET SCAMMED Unless you message outside of the app. No.1 recommend this!!!
I tried to access my account on the app and all my account credits I earned from sales all disappeared. And when clicking on “In-Progress” sales, I get a message that Mercari has cancelled the order. But when I log into my account using a regular browser, I can see my info. This is a major glitch and makes me feel unsafe leaving funds in my account. What happens if it just crashes and I am not able to access my funds.....
Returns/refunds are poorly managed. The messaging system is not through the messages on the app and you have only 24 hours to respond or they close the case. It’s very easy to miss a message from support because of the poor design of the app. They don’t offer a partial refund or adjusted price option at all. I bought 2 pairs of pants in one order, one was great, one was damaged. I wanted to keep the order, but get credit or partial refund for the damaged pair. The only option they gave me was to return everything and then the seller could repost for a lower price. Ridiculous and rigid and poorly managed. The seller was even willing and wanted to adjust the price for me but mercari still provided no solution other than a full return.
Definitely better than depop. 😂 They do direct deposits and offers.
Mercari is an app that advertises buyer protection and a money back guarantee, but in reality they work MUCH differently. In actuality, when you receive a broken item that does not match the description, your only option is to text message the seller via the app. In the event the seller is unresponsive, your only option is to text message mercari via the app. Your claim message is limited to only 150 characters, and you are limited to only 12 photos, requiring that one of those photos be of the packaging, one of the label, and one of every side of the item. You will be contacted via the app from a Mercari representative who will start by saying “before I help you how are you doing today?” and then immediately change the subject and tell you they won’t help you by saying, “although we cannot refund your money to you, we have paid the seller, and recommended you post the item back on Mercari to sell to recoup some money from this situation. We hope your future Mercari experiences are better.” They will then proceed to close out your case and transaction, standing behind the seller, and automatically submit a 5 STAR REVIEW for the poor transaction, in your honor. In the name of capitalism, they will knowingly leave you with a broken item, give you no money back, while they turn around and take their 10% of the transaction and give the rest to the crooked “five star” seller that you trusted based on ratings. They will post an automatic false review of the transaction on the seller’s profile that others now have to look past to find real credible reviews by actual human beings with intention, and wait for you to resell the item to someone else on their app, making them more money.
Love the platform, but with one major issue. Not enough thought has gone into the shipping label creation. I have several larger items listed, and have had more than one person tell me they would purchase if the shipping was cheaper. The problem is that Mercari calculates a flat rate shipping cost to the customer based on the size of the package, but does not take into account the actual weight of the package or the buyer’s location. For example, one particular item I have listed costs a flat rate of $35 to ship on Mercari via FedEx regardless of where the buyer lives. The package weight is also rounded up to 30lb, even though it only weighs 11lb. Whereas, the same item in my eBay store starts at $12.28 to ship by Fedex using eBay’s calculated shipping which takes into account the actual package size, weight and buyer’s actual location. Please consider redesigning your shipping system to reflect actual package weight and buyer’s address, and sales would go up for many sellers.
They’re closing my account after 4 years of using the app because somebody reported my listing of an eye cream. They said homemade items are prohibited but it’s not even homemade? Every time I send an inquiry, they close it without even responding. Don’t use this app.
I was able to find great deals on two gifts for this upcoming Christmas. The desktop app works slowly, but the app works just fine. I primarily use this to purchase used products for myself but it looks like some of the sellers also have new products. The UI is simplistic, which I like, but the settings option feels a bit hidden. Be careful with accepting push notifications, they’re great if you’re actively looking for a particular item, but they can get overwhelming otherwise.
It’s a good place to start a small business to even just selling some old stuff. I rate 4 cause payment is slow. You have to wait till they receive and RATE then you get paid and feel frustrating and also the fee little much but still a good place to start and get a lot traffic.
I love this service and it would be 5 stars if the iPad app would allow you to go to landscape made.
