Build a customer base, then remove features to milk them. I have already purchased the pro add-on, now I am forced to update to be stripped away from existing critical features and the only way to get them is to pay a subscription fee. Stay away and invest in a more stable development.
Great app. It’s become an umbrella app for me. First time I’ve used that word to describe an app. Oh wait, I just saw someone else used that word to describe PDF Expert. Of course. So it continues to surprise me with all that it can do. I’ll write a longer review later - right now I need help because the app keeps crashing. I’m using an iPad. It just started doing this. Any workarounds?
I paid a one time $10 earlier this year for PDF Expert pro, and had greatly enjoyed using this program. It is very efficient and super easy to sync with dropbox so I can seamlessly edit pdfs and transfer to and from my computer. I loved having multiple pen options at my reach. Now with the new update, my app has been reverted back to the basic pdf expert and I am offered a subscription service at a ridiculous price to use the pro version, which I already paid for and had. You no longer get access to multiple pens. In my mind they just created a drastic price increase, and I will most likely cease to use this program, and switch back to using Good Notes. From what I can tell, a program which used to be $10 for the pro version, now costs $50/year?? This is an outrageous price gouge. I do not like the subscription model, and wish I had never updated.
I’ve had this app for a year and I have LOVED using it. To my extreme dismay, it updated automatically and the new version takes away A LOT of my favorite functionality. In order to create your own colors or save settings on the marker or pen, you have to pay a $50 yearly subscription. This is incredibly disappointing alas I’m a graduate student and cannot afford the extra expense. I will NO LONGER be recommending this app.
[UPDATED] I’m not sure if it was the initial revamp (which felt speedier at first) or a subsequent update, but the app has become slow as to nearly unusable. I work mainly in the “synced” files folder to save time fetching things from OneDrive, etc., and file/menu navigation is very slow and frequently crashes back to springboard. I don’t know if when I’ve clicked something it’s responding slowly or if it didn’t register and I should re-click. This is one of the most frustrating UX experiences as my concentration on the work itself is constantly being broken by wondering, “Will this tool work?” Using first gen iPad Pro 13” on latest iOS. I don’t mind the new pricing. Put the revenue toward performance improvements. * * * [Original Review] Still the best PDF app on iOS (and macOS!) Really enjoying the new look and it feels speedier, too. They handled the switch to subscriptions very elegantly: if you had the old Pro version like me, you still have access to all those features. (As far as I can tell the only thing “lost” was having two pens and two highlighters in the menu bar. Changing this seems to be part of the new UI not and intentional deprivation.) I don’t understand the outrage about the new pricing, especially since Pro purchasers were grandfathered in. I certainly don’t expect free updates for life and, in fact, have been begging the developer to take my money for features like OCR and form creation. With a sustainable revenue model, I’m optimistic for these updates. Now if they’d only let me pay for Spark...
As with previous version, this app is surprisingly unstable if multiple large PDFs are open. It will eventually start crashing on opening - the only way to fix it is to reboot iPad. I’ve not had any other app that can remain crashed even after force-quitting.
App was pretty decent, but now the subscription service is shoved in your face and adds clutter to the interface.
New page scrolling is two slow, in older version you can skip the pages with one tap, but in the new version its impossible.
This is a fraud after you down load are been stolen the money from My credit card I want to cance pls delite this fraud
Developer response: Lies. Multiple pen presets used to be available, now they’re $50/yr. The app has become $50/yr. It’s a PDF app. I’m sure they’ve run the numbers and decided that screwing over their existing paid customers for a few cash cows is totally worth it. I really hope this despicable app and its milking strategy fail.
