Pure instant messaging — simple, fast, secure, and synced across all your devices. One of the world's top 10 most downloaded apps with over 500 million active users. FAST: Telegram is the fastest messaging app on the market, connecting people via a unique, distributed network of data centers around the globe. SYNCED: You can access your messages from all your phones, tablets and computers at once. Telegram apps are standalone, so you don’t need to keep your phone connected. Start typing on one device and finish the message from another. Never lose your data again. UNLIMITED: You can send media and files, without any limits on their type and size. Your entire chat history will require no disk space on your device, and will be securely stored in the Telegram cloud for as long as you need it. SECURE: We made it our mission to provide the best security combined with ease of use. Everything on Telegram, including chats, groups, media, etc. is encrypted using a combination of 256-bit symmetric AES encryption, 2048-bit RSA encryption, and Diffie–Hellman secure key exchange. 100% FREE & OPEN: Telegram has a fully documented and free API for developers, open source apps and verifiable builds to prove the app you download is built from the exact same source code that is published. POWERFUL: You can create group chats with up to 200,000 members, share large videos, documents of any type (.DOCX, .MP3, .ZIP, etc.) up to 2 GB each, and even set up bots for specific tasks. Telegram is the perfect tool for hosting online communities and coordinating teamwork. RELIABLE: Built to deliver your messages using as little data as possible, Telegram is the most reliable messaging system ever made. It works even on the weakest mobile connections. FUN: Telegram has powerful photo and video editing tools, animated stickers and emoji, fully customizable themes to change the appearance of your app, and an open sticker/GIF platform to cater to all your expressive needs. SIMPLE: While providing an unprecedented array of features, we take great care to keep the interface clean. Telegram is so simple you already know how to use it. PRIVATE: We take your privacy seriously and will never give any third parties access to your data. You can delete any message you ever sent or received for both sides, at any time and without a trace. Telegram will never use your data to show you ads. For those interested in maximum privacy, Telegram offers Secret Chats. Secret Chat messages can be programmed to self-destruct automatically from both participating devices. This way you can send all types of disappearing content — messages, photos, videos, and even files. Secret Chats use End-to-End Encryption to ensure that a message can only be read by its intended recipient. We keep expanding the boundaries of what you can do with a messaging app. Don’t wait years for older messengers to catch up with Telegram — join the revolution today.

Not as private as it sounds

In an effort to find a truly private messaging app, I have spent a lot of time verifying the claims of app developers. The more I read about Telegram the more I learn about it’s privacy issues. No messaging app is perfect, with Signal being the closest, but since it’s based in the US, a country with a long and proven (thank you Edward Snowden) history of violating it’s own privacy laws (yet no govt official has ever been arrested or prosecuted from braking US laws ), and requiring people to us a phone number to open an account, among one other major concern about it, some prefer not to use it. Anyway, back to Telegram, an article from ProtonMail nicely points to it’s weaknesses. Here is a piece of that article. “Pros Free Channels for broadcasting messages Bots for managing groups Sync across multiple devices (not E2EE) Polls, stickers, sharing live location, identity management E2EE 1-1 text, voice, and video chat Cons Encryption concerns Only Secret Chats are E2EE Group chats (text or voice) are not E2EE Collects lots of metadata No group video chats Requires a valid phone number to register Headquartered in the UAE, which is not known for human rights or privacy from the government (despite having some strong privacy laws) With over 500 million users, Telegram is a very popular WhatsApp alternative. A big part of this popularity is the widespread perception that Telegram is highly secure, a perception only heightened by a number of governments, notably Indonesia, Russia, and Iran, trying to block or ban the app. There are, however, some big caveats regarding the security that Telegram offers its users. Regular default “Cloud-based messages,” that can be accessed on any of a user’s devices, are encrypted in transit and when stored on Telegram’s servers, but they are not end-to-end encrypted. Only client-to-client “secret chats” are end-to-end encrypted. Secret Chats are not available for groups or channels. The open source in-house MTProto encryption used to secure communications in Telegram (whether E2EE or otherwise) has come under criticism from security experts, although the new version (MTProto 2.0) has been formally verified to be cryptographically sound. The Telegram API and all Telegram apps are open source, but its server-side backend is not. Another issue is that Telegram may collect a great deal of metadata from users: “We may collect metadata such as your IP address, devices and Telegram apps you’ve used, history of username changes, etc.” On the other hand, Telegram has built its own secure cloud infrastructure, distributed across the globe. The encryption keys used to secure the Telegram Cloud are split in pieces and never stored in the same place as the information they protect.”

Telegram icon

I had removed the Telegram app off my iPhone. Now I’m trying to put it back but it will only allow me to access my account threw the App Store. So if I close the App Store I can’t receive calls or messages The only app I’ve ever had this problem and no one can resolve it.

Telegram on Android is much more better

Hi, I've been using Telegram on An android phone (Galaxy note 9) for last three years and then switched back to ios and apple ecosystem. The thing that really is bothering me about ios version of Telegram is that in the android version, I have much more control of setting and there is much more options to make telegram appearance to look the way I feel more comfortable. please let that options to be available on ios version too. the most part I miss is the chat "settings" in android version. for example: "chat list view", "chat list swipe gesture", ...

Telegram supports free speech BUT unfair user moderator-admins don’t

This app’s features and seamlessness is 5+ stars; however, the administrators/bots who moderate channels are unfair. Then, bc Telegram does nothing to moderate moderators and does nothing to respond to issues reported, I am giving it 1 star. Explanation: I was bullied by some users then banned by a channel group admin yet have no idea why I was bullied or why I was banned. All I remember is I was helping someone understand how to fix her difficult-to-read post (which according to first amendment rights is not a bannable offense) and then was almost immediately banned. The fact that 2 ladies misunderstood and got unreasonably upset for my helping the person and then proceeded to bully and scold me for no good reason is totally unfair. I tried multiple times to report this issue of being banned (for no good reason) and that I was bullied but got no answer from customer service after multiple attempts. If ppl are going to ban users, at least give the reason why AND a chance to correct the misunderstanding if there is one. If not, how is this app any better than twitter or Facebook for banning ppl from their accounts? Does this app really support free speech? It is not illegal to provide constructive criticism anywhere in America yet this app supports moderators/administrators who ban free speech? What are editorial pages and book reviews for? For free speech and to help others understand things whatever the things may be. This is unacceptable censorship. Please ensure that your moderators understand what free speech is and that they are in violation of supporting free speech when they censor ppl for silly reasons: I was not being violent, not posting pornography, not threatening anyone’s life, not spamming, nor bulling anyone; in fact, I was helping someone be better at posting comments and in fact was literally gang-attacked for my helping this person. Just bc ppl don’t understand what “helping others” means, doesn’t mean users who help others should be banned. Please moderate your moderators to ensure they like you (Telegram supports free speech) are also not violating ppl’s free speech rights. I sent Telegram app support a version of this message but not sure I’ll even get a reply so I’m also posting this issue here so others can be aware of it.

This app is just perfect But i think it’s would be a better place if you dealt with the terrorists groups and channels seriously and banned them completely. It’s really frustrating to see such people using this app to spread their evil and disgusting news
