Honestly, it’s worth the pro because of the clips with native speakers speaking the phrases. I had the non pro version and never liked it but now that I’m pro you can really do and learn so much. 4/5 because you have to have pro to get the best learning experience but once you have it you’re stoked!
iPhone and iPad apps don’t sync well. They don’t show up as using iCloud.
The interface is entirely not user-friendly. For instance, I currently have a word in Japanese that I am learning. I would like to go into the app and look just look at the word, because I feel like I’m pronouncing it incorrectly in my head. But I cannot, for the life of me, find a list of the words that I’ve learned or just find a list of my “difficult words” at a glance. I can look at certain words I’ve learned in certain lessons as I’m only at level 1, but for some reason I’m learning words and sentences that can’t even be found in the list. So if I want to go and make sure I’m pronouncing it correctly, I actually have to click on “review” and spend 10 minutes working with other words, hoping that I can find it again just to make sure I’m pronouncing it correctly. I don’t know why this is not a feature. And if it is, I don’t know why it’s so hard and confusing to find. If this was changed it would 100% be my favorite language learning app, far better than Duolingo. But on Duolingo, I can go back and see the words I’ve learned in a list.
see, memrise was so helpful! it was perfect...WAS! they updated their app and it honestly seems like they’re trying to copy duolingo, and it’s very annoying! if nobody liked the duolingo update, why would you copy it? this new update has made me so unmotivated, and honestly i’m going to delete the app cause of it. it’s not that bad, but it’s not good either. i liked the old layout better, you know? the layout that didn’t look like a game! the layout that made SENSE! 🤦🏾♀️
Hearing the local accents and the revision style of this app really helped me learn!
Very good but it doesn’t help me with the pronunciation of my language
I really liked this app because it’s really fun way to learn the meaning of the words ,phrases in the Qoran
Memrise has allowed me the ability to learn my ancestral language
Full curse words are written out in the options for multiple choice questions. I do not feel that is necessary, and makes it so children can’t use this learning tool. It should not be rated 12+. Update, the developers shared there is a way to block such words. As this is the case, the option to block them should not be hidden away but pointed out in the tutorial so parents and others can do so right away.
This app actually does a great job at helping you learn and retain foreign words in a fun format. The leaderboards make it extra addicting. I especially love the use of real locals saying vocabulary words in different ways to get comfortable with the variety in language that occurs in real-life conversations. This is a great tool to have on standby in your pocket when you have a moment to run through a speed review or watch their videos. I recommend using Memrise in conjunction with a supplementary learning tool, such as another language-learning app, a grammar book, YouTube, or tv shows/movies! Happy Learning!
