Don’t leave home without it. So useful I sent my maps home and relied solely on Guthook during my month on the Appalachian Trail.
It has become kind of a de facto source for information so many many people post. But the user interface is just atrocious trying to figure out how things work for the first time
After using this for a while on the AT, it’s become apparent that there is a lot of data out there on the trails and towns that is not contained in this app. I’m not sure where the app pulls data from, but it’s lacking in that department. Other guides seem to list more, and more current, data about available resources, like hostiles, restaurants, stores, etc. on the trail. And while the maps are nice, there are important waypoints that are just not listed. However they exist in other guides. The app itself seems to run fine for the most part. I seem to experience an issue where the GPS stays enabled even though I turn it off in the app. The app shows the GPS off, but as soon as I move to the home screen (app in background) the little blue bubble in the upper left corner continues to indicate enabled. The only way to get it to stop is to force close the app.
Awesome on Southern Section of PCT. Thank you.
I love this app and I‘ve used it for years. My only problem is trying to stop myself from checking it constantly. There is so much information about the trails and it seems like it is updated regularly. I only have a few suggestions if they are possible. 1) SOS button for if you get into trouble or if there is an emergency. 2) Add more trails from around the world. I use Komoot in Europe, but would use Guthook if it were an option.
Maybe the only thing that might make the app better would be comment sections to rate shuttle services and include their phone numbers.
Guthook's app got me through my CDT thru and AT SOBO thru. Tons of information and very easy to use. You’ll always know where you are in relation to the trail - even when you don’t have a cell or data signal.
Bought the first AT section for a short hike just to check it out. Didn’t think I would use it much. I was on it a lot. Lots of good info. Location, distance to and from, water sources...all very accurate.
I sent my Enreach home. I was only using Guthook. So, that should say it all.
The most recent app update erased all public comments and it makes planning very difficult. Don’t invest in this app unless/until this bug is fixed.
