That better than books and paper map. When I lost in the woods, I used GPS map found the trail. This app saved my life if I lost in the woods.

Thanks Kept us on track wonderfully and had most watering holes. I appreciated the comment section as we walked through Oregon

Not worth the money

I was disappointed with Guthook. I found the information on campsites and water sources lacking and eventually quit even bothering to use the app on the JMT.

Guthook has made navigation on the trails and in trail towns easy- most folks wouldn’t last a week without it- some think that the trails are getting to crowded- don’t be an elitist- the more the merrier:)

Wonderland Trail with Guthook for the Win

This is so easy to use. My favorite for preparing and along the way. I took screenshots of each day so I didn’t need to use GPS to have an overview of each day. This app answers all the questions we had along the hike. How much further until lunch? Water? Camp? How much uphill? Where am I exactly? I wish I had it for every hike I do.

Fantastic App

Guthook is the best app, hands down. Great features. Easy to use.

A great app for PCT

Incredibly helpful to have this app especially this year with so much snow obscuring more of the trail longer into summer. Being able to use my iPhone’s GPS while in Airplane mode, and with the app so easy to switch the GPS function off and on, preserved battery life very effectively.

First PCT hike.

From Santiam Pass to Olallie Lake. It was pretty accurate for the most part. But Guthook had our last day off by quite a bit. We camped at Russell lake (beautiful!) and Guthook said we had 6.8 miles to the store at Olallie. It wasn’t until we entered the Mt.Hood wilderness that it auto corrected. I obviously didn’t have cell reception at the time of the error, but that fact didn't seemed to impact the rest of the hike because it was very accurate compared to a map without reception. So, overall, I have to say it is a great app. I love how people can enter comments and give you an update as to the status of the trail, water, campsites, etc. very useable information. Guthook has many destinations marked on the map. However, there are many more that are not. It would be nice if you could tap on other destinations that aren’t marked specifically as landmarks on the GH map and get a simple distance or, the name of a body of water that exists on OTHER maps. I assume this will improve in time. Though certainly not a necessity, It would also be nice if the photos were a bit higher in resolution. Old photos or not, it would be nice to zoom in just a little bit more.

Best backcountry navigation app that I have used

Buying Guthook for the Colorado Trail was the best investment I made for a successful thru-hike!
