I have used this app for the AT several times. It is a great companion with the AWOL Guide Works even with no phone signal. Check the notes for the latest updates from contributing hikers
Awesome app that has changed long distance / thru hiking for the better. Awesome interface. Never lost with guthook. My favorite is the comment section, there is tons of useful info for hikers.
Bring a compass and bring this app. Better safe than sorry.
I love being able to see the towns and know what’s up before I get there. This saves a ton of time.
Outstanding is the word for Guthook! The support team is also beyond question, they were exceptional! I started my (eventually failed) thru hike without Guthook. Everyone that I met on the AT—-both thru and section hikers—had the app! During my first “zero” in a hotel with good WiFi, I purchased and downloaded it. Back on trail, it was a night and day difference. It eliminated so much of the mystery that challenges thru hikers initially! Best resupply, water sources, etc. I still carried my AWOL...and used it at night to conserve battery power...but once on Trail, I referred exclusively to “the Hook”! And the value of the interactive comments from other hikers cannot be discounted! This year, I hope to get back on the AT.... I also find the Guthook a great planning tool.
I hiked a section last year on the CDT from Breckinridge to Gunnison. It was great at helping me plan, pack and find my way. This year I’m going back and planning to trek the entire distance and will be bringing this app with me. Very accurate and easy to use. Now if it could only predict lightning and thunder storms🤔.
Used on my 2019 thru-hike on the AT. Very helpful. Really liked the updates from hikers ahead of me who gave info on water sources, campsite conditions, etc. Let me carry less water many times as I knew a water source was not dry. GPS helped as I could quickly check to make sure I was on the trail. You might think that’s not an issue but when the trail goes over a field of rocks it can be hard to follow. I’m planning a PCT thru-hike and I will have Guthook for it! Clearly SIX stars in my mind!!!
I don’t get it. I bought this to locate current water sources in the backcountry and trails. Doesn’t make sense.
Guthook is a Great tool and made the trip easier to plan and educate/ keep you up to date, while your on the trail. Simply stated it is all you need.
Went hiking on the trail you must have good and precise information. On CUE. (Sturdy Oak)
