Introducing the Democrat and Chronicle Print Edition app, where subscribers can read the Democrat and Chronicle on an iPad with all the stories, photos and ads shown just as it appears in print. Subscribers can use their current account login to access current and back issues.
I recently updated to 13.2.2 and the app is prone to freezing where you cannot scroll or do anything. I have to shut down the app to make it functional. This morning a couple articles continuously froze so I had to expand the page view to read anything. The restarts do take me back to the page that I was on but this is very frustrating.
Many items fail to come into focus. Pictures are extremely low res. When it fails to work, error messages are unhelpful. Thought it would work better on my brand new iPad but this was wishful thinking.
Doesn’t make use for an Xs sized screen
This is the worst app I have ever seen. Navigation is bizarre. And does anyone notice that the main story is not the same as the paper newspaper and neither is the D&C website. I’m not even convinced the entire story is published on the app!
I like the app and appreciate the ability to read digitally when I’m on the go. I do hope, however that the app gets updated to support the full screen of the iPhone X. That would be a much better experience as I lose a bit of the screen to black bars at the top and bottom.
Finally the app had started to work a little better, then another update that supposedly fixed a few bugs and stability. NOT! Just brought back all the bugs and instability! As another reviewer said, scrolling to read is a nightmare. Every time you barely touch the screen it does everything but what you want, just to scroll to read the article. It will enlarge, enlarge, switch pages or change out of the reading mode you’re using. Also, when to try to get back to where you were at the graphics and sometimes the articles are so blurry you can’t read it. Soooo frustrated by this.
Stopped working. Shows a white screen, or else they've reduced their news coverage to zero.
Don't change a thing. Let the complainers use the other version.
They finally got the real news of the print edition. Now if they had the resources they could make it useful like the NYTimes app for navigation instead of basically a straight scan of the news print edition. Much better, but I'll stay with my beloved PAPER print edition and check back in 6-12 months hoping for a real solution.
The latest app revision introduced a major problem. It is now almost impossible to scroll up on the screen to see the bottom of the page in landscape mode. This new app version instead either pages back or forward a page. It's nearly uncontrollable. This happens on two iPad's Pro in our household. It's infuriating. It takes us twice as long to read paper. Gannett is trying to convince customers that they've "gone digital". Not!! Fix the bugs!
