It’s Just Like Having a Tour Guide in Your Car™ WHAT TO EXPECT: The Road to Hana is one of the world’s most scenic drives and a popular sightseeing activity to see Maui’s spectacular waterfalls, black sand beaches, bamboo forests, lava rock formations and amazing ocean views as you wind your way through 620 curves and 59 bridges. If you prefer travelling independently, at your own pace, GyPSy Guide provides the best Road to Hana tour experience, along with the freedom to choose what you enjoy; squishing the black sand between your toes at Wai’anapanapa, hiking the Pipiwai Bamboo Trail, or maybe time to enjoy an extra slice of banana bread. You can’t help but cheer on the world class windsurfers at Ho’okipa. And you won’t need to worry about photoshopping the Rainbow Eucalyptus at the Ke’anae Arboretum or the stunning contrast between blue water and black lava rock at Ke’anae Peninsular. Take a moment to cool off with a quick swim at the pristine Hamoa Beach and see where Haleakala National Park descends from the summit to the sea and the “Seven Sacred Pools” of Oheo at the end of the drive. With such a long day of exploring (expect 8-12 hours), it’s important to know the 5 “not to be missed” stops, and the many more suggestions if you have time. Part of the secret to enjoying the journey is knowing how not to waste your time, and we have tips for that as well. On the return drive from Hana, we’ll point out the not to be missed stops again as well as tell you stories about Hawaii’s fascinating history and rich culture. Please note Highway #31 ‘backside route’ is not recommended for driving. Rental car insurance void. Road can be closed for repairs, mudslides and flash floods. WHAT YOU’LL SEE: Some of the highlights along the route include; • Ho’okipa Beach Park • Paia • Ke’anae Peninsular • Wai’anapanapa Park, Black Sand Beach • Hana • Hamoa Beach • Wailua Falls • Twin Falls • Upper Waikanai Falls (3 Bears) • Pools of O’heo (Seven Sacred Pools) • Pipiwai Bamboo Trail BATTERY USAGE: ++ Continued use of GPS/Location Services in the background increases battery usage. We strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger. Avoid using a direct connection to the USB port of a rental vehicle. IPADS: ** iPad models must include a GPS chip. Please note that Apple only install these on the iPad Wifi + Cellular models. Wifi only iPad models have limited location service capabilities and are unable to play commentary automatically. Keeps starting my music over in alphabetical order and hasn’t played a single tour guide. Biggest waste of money.
This is my second trip to the road to Hana, first using this app, and I would highly recommend. It took us to places I had no idea about. However, plan to get up at dawn to head out so you can truly enJOY the sites. Some you will want to spend longer at than others, and you want to be back before dark (due to hazardous driving). AND YOU must go past Hana to the first stop this was truly the best spot of all. The Seven Sacred Pools which is the second spot after isn’t really all that and I wouldn’t do it again. The only suggestion I would have to make the narrative tour better, is to add Hawaiian music during the parts in which the narrator is not speaking.
Used this App for the drive to Hana. Worked flawlessl even without service so download before you go and bring a charging cable. Info, directions, and recommendations on point! It’s a far cry from our trip years ago with a map and a list from the hotel lobby! Would recommend to anyone going on the trip!
Absolutely the best. So much information and history but better yet, very specific details about attractions with directions and recommendations. I’d done this trip before but this time was beyond compare...I missed so much without Gypsy. What a brilliant day!
Our first time doing the road to Hana and we are so glad we had this app. Not only for the tips on where to stop but also the great history of what we were seeing. I can’t imagine doing the tour without it!
Great app. Easy to listen to
We had a wonderful day on our trip to Hana using this app. The tour guide gave great recommendations and emphasized the “must-see” attractions. Also gave a great mini history lesson of Hawaii on the way back. You can’t go wrong using this app. Well worth it!!!!
We have done the road to Hana on our own using phone screenshots of tips and landmarks from websites as our guide (since there is no signal to pull the sites up real-time). This app was far and away superior to that method. The guide’s details were timely, poignant, informative, and entertaining. This is an exceptional product.
Great app!! Def worth it buying it!! It made our trip 100 times better! Fun, entertaining and extremely helpful!! It s like having your personal guide your for the day!!
We purchased this app about five minutes before we started the drive and it was well worth it. Excellent suggestions for what the must-stop things are and it includes a lot of great insight and stories about Hawaii. Also we started calling the narrator Ralph during our drive. It seemed like the right thing to do.
