By HELLOTALK FOREIGN LANGUAGE EXCHANGE LEARNING TALK CHAT APP
This app is very amazing.
Sometimes the transliteration from japanese gives chinese instead of japanese. Not an easy way to submit feedback for errors. Otherwise a great app
At first I thought I found a great app, however the longer I used it the more buggy it became. Overlapping UI, no sound, broken timer, defective completion percentage, and many more minor details. I contacted the support and they told me to “ 1) Logout and then login to HelloTalk again. 2) Kill app process and relaunch app 3) Change to another wifi/4g 4) Restart phone”. Of course none of it helped, because my iPhone is not the problem. This app is just buggy, and the more you use it, the more buggy it gets. I’m glad I didn’t pay anything. I was planning to buy VIP if they fixed the first problem I reported, but my experience with this app turned horrible in just 2 weeks, so I’m deleting it instead.
I downloaded this app per a recommendation from my Spanish professor. The first message I received immediately commented on my appearance. Unfortunately, this was a common occurrence. I felt so harassed that I changed my profile picture multiple times in an attempt to stop people from commenting on it. Unfortunately this did not stop the comments, and I decided to delete the app after only having it for 2 days. Additionally, I was extremely overwhelmed by the number of people messaging me; at the time that I deleted the app, I had 67 unread messages. The tools that this app provides are awesome, and they would be a great tool to practice my Spanish, however I cannot being myself to use an app that makes me feel ashamed just for using a photo of my face as my profile picture. One of the top rules of the app are that it is not to be used as a dating app, but there is no way to stop people from using it in such a way. One message I received said “I like women from the USA, they’re pretty like you.” I wish I could take advantage of the resources on this app, but there needs to be changes before I can bring myself to download it again.
They banned the entire Chinese userbase from seeing people’s posts. Your posts are shadowbanned if they have certain keywords. I reported somebody for political hate speech and they instead gave me, the recipient, a warning on my account. Cancelled and uninstalled.
I had this app and found it quite useful but suddenly the admin contacted me and said” people are complaining that you might not be who you say you are” with that they said I had to upload photo ID? Sorry but with all the fraud going on and people stealing identities, I decided to cancel my subscription! Plus I don’t believe anyone really complained but this is just the Chinese desire to control content! Update: hello talk contacted me about this and I sent them the conversation I had and the reason for canceling and maybe 10 minutes later hellotalk confirmed I was canceled for “ fake ID”! Obviously no one looked into the issue and thus a knee jerk response! Why did you waste my time! Since we purchase this through Apple apps don’t you think you can trust that we say who we say we are?
Great app to learn a language but haven’t been able to find any Chinese speakers anymore.
It’s nice talking to other people on hellotalk but I think it has become more of a place for international dating. Maybe it’s just that most people don’t know that this app shouldn’t be used for dating but it’s a little creepy sometimes. I deleted my account before because I felt too uncomfortable. Overall this is a good app. I like meeting new people and learning about their cultures. I hope this app continues to do its thing.
This is a good app, but it really does not like it when you use a bluetooth keyboard to type. One time I connected my bluetooth keyboard after typing out a message and my entire message was deleted. There are some other bugs related to bluetooth keyboards as well.
Good job censoring every chinese person that uses the app. Now I can’t request help from chinese people because you banned them all. So what’s the point of me even having the app now if I can’t talk to anyone from China?
