By HELLOTALK FOREIGN LANGUAGE EXCHANGE LEARNING TALK CHAT APP
Super approachable and easy all to use. Easy and fun to talk to people online who are learning languages
Si no ponen el modo oscuro dentro de poco, para el otro año me voy a quedar ciego. 😂
This app is basically perfect exept that you cannot talk to 8 new people a day
凭什么乱封我 我明明没有违规 你们能不能看清楚啊
I don’t know what’s going on but it keeps glitching like crazy
If you're looking to expose yourself to more native content or speakers in a language you're learning, this is a great place to start! But actually finding solid advice and explanations is much harder haha. I'm learning English > Japanese so my experiences may not be universal among the community, but the user-base as a whole could stand to be far more critical when giving feedback. People will let small mistakes slip through and give learners a pass despite the fact that what they are saying IS incorrect, probably to try and seem polite. And I've seen more than a few people giving straight up WRONG advice- mostly non-native English speakers explaining English to others, but theres been a few native speakers who explain things poorly or give incorrect feedback as well. I think the moments feature is really hindered by the inability to edit comments or corrections after you send them, and the way comments are ordered under posts can be really confusing. The fact that you can't reply to a comment, only tag them in your own under the same post, is mind boggling, especially because they're in reverse chronological order. There's also no way to "downvote" other peoples corrections in those instances where they're giving the wrong advice, which can lead to misunderstanding and misinformation. You basically just have to take all the advice you get from this app with a grain of salt.
I have tried to sign up with 4 different emails. EVERY SINGLE TIME, the app says that I have already signed up with that email. (All of them were mine, and the names were all quite diverse/creative) I really wanted this app to work, so I deleted and then proceeded to reinstall it. Again the app said i had already logged in with them. I am very disappointed.
Many people use this app to make quick relationships rather than to learn, Just today I saw a 13 year old Korean child say they want a foreign boyfriend and it had so many likes by elder foreign people. They spam these things on the learning section of the app, that issue paired with three translations, and all of the interactions that used to be free BEFORE Hello talk team repackaged them and gave them to VIP. Learning posts are never promoted as much as the ones where people ask for friendships that last no longer than one day before moving on. There also needs to be separation in the app by age, a 20 year old should not match with a 13 year old. That can be very dangerous.
They have terrible customer support, especially if you ask them REAL important questions. They will ignore you and pretend like they didn’t understand your question and never answer it because they don’t want to tell you the honest answer. For example, I was interested in getting the lifetime VIP subscription that retails for $149.99. It’s always been that price for a very long time now. Since late 2019 I think according to some Reddit forums. I was keeping my eye out for Black Friday hoping it would go on sale and take a good chunk off that hefty price. Well that never happened and in fact, they decided to lie on their Black Friday sale flyer! They updated it to say the lifetime VIP subscription costs $179.99 and is now on sale for $149.99. I wish I can share on here the screenshots of the original flyer and then the new Black Friday one. So of course I messaged customer support once again to inquire about this wondering why they would lie and say that it’s on sale for this alleged “new VIP price” when that has always been the VIP price!!! NO INTEGRITY!!! Please don’t waste your hard earned money on an app that would go this far to LIE in order to make money. If you didn’t want to go on sale for the lifetime VIP subscription that’s okay, you don’t have to but why go through all the trouble of lying like you did go on sale as if phones can’t screenshot and keep track of the VIP price? The app itself is ok. I haven’t had any issues but knowing how shady they operate, I wouldn’t spend a single dime on it. I’ll keep using the free version of HelloTalk since I can just copy and paste what I want to translate on the Google Translate app for FREE and unlimited amounts!!!👌🏽🤑
