This app is awful. I cannot find the newspaper as it appears in print.
Suddenly my Tennessean app said my account is inactive. Perhaps that explains why I can’t access the e-edition on my phone. The customer service rep said my account shouldn’t be inactive and promised to investigate. Meanwhile, no newspaper on my phone.
The Tennessean is not much of a “newspaper” anymore. Half of the newspaper is ads with way too many full page ads. Would love to see some world news included in the paper. This paper also needs to be bipartisan since it is the only newspaper in the area. It’s sad when you only get the paper once a week for the crossword puzzle, sale fliers and coupons. Won’t be renewing our subscription.
Despite years and years of using the Tennessean app, a couple months ago the app started to ask me to subscribe or log in to view an article. Initially I ignored it, it didn’t happen very often, and it wasn’t a big deal, of course paying subscribers should have more access to the newspaper. That was until the last 2 months, now it seems that there is no longer a rhyme or reason to the app blocking the viewing of the articles. Even when a notification doesn’t say, “subscribers only”, the article will be blocked from view. I refuse to buy a digital subscription, because the Tennessean uses personalized ad based revenue inside their app, and don’t offer an ad free version for subscribers. In my opinion, offering the app access to my personal information for them in turn to sell to advertisers, is more than compensation for online app access only. I called customer service, because other papers’ websites and apps, at the least say, “you have 10 free articles this month”. Then as a reader, you will know whether or not to click on an article-because why waste your “free articles” on headlines you read just to pass the time because you know you need to save your “free articles” for the headlines on the articles that pertain to you and you need the information. Not this paper, this paper sends notifications that doesn’t say “subscribers only” but will ask you to sign up or log in, they don’t tell you if you only have “x,y,z” number of articles you can view, and customer service is outsourced overseas to India and they only are there to answer the phone and sell subscriptions. I called customer service today and got nowhere, she would not even give me a local number. Can you believe the world we live in? You can’t even get the local phone number to the state newspaper anymore? Is that what this country is come to? It’s so much big business that we have to pay for news because ads aren’t enough and we don’t even have the right to contact our local paper directly here in TN and complain about it? I’m so sad for our country and what it’s come too. I remember the newspaper used to have the 615 number on the paper and a local Nashvillian would answer the phone when you called. It’s a shame. Delete this app, or don’t download it. It should be illegal for a newspaper to demand access to your personal information for nothing in return. Btw, you can get most of the news they send out in their notifications from News Channel 5’s app. Most of the time it matches their notifications word for word anyways! I really just wanted to read the story about why more teens are getting killed in cars this morning and couldn’t. Of all the articles, parents should be reading that one and reading it for free, that’s the one that it made me pay for-online and in the app. Isn’t that a shame? I just wanted to know how to help save lives and had to pay for the information! It makes me so sad. Of all the nonsense they write about and give out for free, the one thing that was really important, I couldn’t get access too unless I could afford a monthly subscription.
Never mind that I pay for a prescription, I can’t ever read past the advertisements covering the stories
i can’t stand all the Titans ads. you’d think nothing else in & around the capital of Tennessee matters.
This is one of the hardest to use apps out there. A piece of garbage!
I have an active digital subscription, but the app constantly logs me out. I can't stay logged in no matter what I try. Half the time it won't accept my login credentials at all - I enter them, and the empty login fields just reappear. Not even an error message. So I use the web site exclusively. The app is useless until this gets fixed, which I imagine will be the day after never.
Can’t even find the front page!
Great, up-to-date information on the most important news in Nashville and Middle Tennessee.
