Articles close when I try to scroll, so I can’t read them. Articles in the e-edition, “home,” and on the website aren’t all the same. And that’s before talking about the mediocre quality of the actual articles and reporting.
Articles won’t stay open for more than a few seconds. I am a subscriber so it’s incredibly frustrating to have to open an article 10 times to read the whole thing.
I’ve been a N&O subscriber for years, because I want to support local news. But this app is so bad it’s making me reconsider my subscription (which is more expensive that the WaPo, FWIW). The app crashes multiple times when reading every story, and sends you back to the home page once again. The stories highlighted are often totally outdated. In the Durham section there are stories that are like 2 years old! I know times are tough for local papers, but please hire some developers to build a functional app or more and more people are gonna reject this paper. PS. I deleted and redownloaded the app multiple times as suggested. It makes no difference. The problem is the app, not some outdated version.
I can read the News and Observer newspaper on my iPhone but can’t open it on my iPad. Both devices are new and up to date. Any solutions? Kind of a bummer because I don’t get the physical paper. PRobably going to cancel if I can’t resolve soon, even though I believe in supporting the local news.
**Edit to add: I got a developer response suggesting it was a Facebook problem that I can’t share stories. This is not applicable, I’m trying to share directly from the app and nothing happens. I don’t have a Facebook account and that is definitely not the problem. I’m happy to continue subscribing to the N&O, I really value local journalism and feel like I’ve gotten a lot out of the subscription. However, the app experience is rough. I have an iPhone and the stories will frequently close and return to the homepage when I’m halfway through reading them. The bigger problem for the N&O itself is that the sharing function doesn’t work! I click on the sharing button to share the story when I want to hear others’ comments, but nothing happens when I click it. This seems like something you should definitely fix, I’m trying to give these stories more clicks! Lots of bugs to fix, would really appreciate if they were worked out.
I made transition to e-version in 2018. This current app turns the page back . Agree with other reviews that the e version replica much harder to read. I read the e-edition and abandoned trying to read the web version. Android seems to run better than my iPad. Both take 15 seconds to load some days. On content , the Top Stories often stale with 2 or 3 day old articles. My major peeve is the weather is up to two weeks old. Yes, 2 week old weather! Less would be more when it comes to Top Stories. Also, stay away from back button in your browser while reading articles in replica. That closes the web page for entire replica. I learned to only use the X in upper right corner on the article page view you are reading.
I want to see the whole paper, not 6/135 pages!
I don’t normally leave reviews but this app is fairly lousy. I’ve used it for a couple years and despite a significant revamp a year or so ago it still routinely logs you out and forces you through a bunch of hurdles to log back in. The content is useful as the main local print news source (that isn’t very skewed left/right) in the Triangle which is the only reason this isn’t 1 star.
This app is barely functional. I am unable to read an entire article without it flipping back to the beginning screen, even if the article is book marked. Given the subscription is higher than the Wall Street Journal (for a print edition) and the New York Times, you might expect it to be perfect.
The initial rollout of this app was phenomenal, but it has gotten progressively worse with each update. The eEdition is absolutely atrocious and it is a pain to use. For me to use this app again, it will have to get better starting with an eEdition that’s not a rectangle in the middle of the darn page…
