seriously apple? the page turning feature was amazing why would you do this with ios 16??!?!??
How long do customers need to complain before Apple fixes this app? Books deletes PDFs for no reason and deletes my entire library and then reloads it and then repeats the process. I pay for extra iCloud storage, have not used even a tenth of it and yet Apple can’t manage to maintain access to my library without this hiccup. Users of iOS pay handsomely for their devices. Can Apple not even maintain their own native apps with a degree of competence? This garbage doesn’t happen in the Kindle app. Fix this app. Apple, why won’t you fix this app?
I strictly used this over my kindle and the kindle app because of little things like this, the animation was great. I’m sure I will use the books app way less now. Terrible update
Review is as suggested.
Have thousands of hours of reading on this app - and now am considering taking my library and all future iBook purchases to another app or NON-APPLE device. Stop fixing things that aren't broken. Horrific new text defaults - lost all the old ones. No matter what settings I adjust, it's UNREADABLE for more then a paragraph. TERRIBLE sizing of spaces between words (even after adjusting the setting - which didn't need to be a setting, it worked FINE before). Terrible results when zooming even +/- 1-to-2 clicks. FIX IT PLEASE. Bring back the old default as an option at LEAST.
The update destroyed the best of the app. Not being able to scroll as you usually do reading a real book is a major issue. Did you ever hear of , if it’s not broken don’t fix it?
I love reading. And I love being able to take multiple books with me without actually carrying heavy books around. But this update is not reader friendly. The page by page turn is awful, leaving the numbers in the upper corner is distracting, and the bookmark button is very frustrating to use. The only plus is the larger font sizes that were added. Please bring back the bookmark button, remove the numbers from the upper corner, and bring back the page by page turn from IOS 15.
The previous design worked very well. It’s senseless to change the design just for the sake of doing so… It didn’t contradict with the more current iOS 16 design language either? Why change it??
Very disappointed in the latest changes. Major problems in the core reading experience. 1. I can’t understand why the close and customize icons are persistently in the viewport. This is annoying and distracting. The previous app iteration would reveal the controls on tap. It was an elegant solution where you are immersed in your book entirely without any need for UI. Are users quickly jumping in and out of books while rapidly changing typography settings multiple times per reading session? I don’t understand this change at all. It’s a regression of the core app experience. 2. The bookmark on tap is ruining reading. Every single time I try to scroll I place a bookmark. Which means I have to then tap again to remove the bookmark. I can understand the genesis of this feature, but it’s way too aggressive. Im constantly pulled out of concentration to remove accidental bookmarks. Can they be long press? Something less invasive? 3. I love having more typography options. Being able to adjust the leading is great. I wish I could set a single theme that had light & dark mode, but instead have to maintain two separate themes with identical type choices. The added control of this feature is nice, but I don’t think the complexity of theming is working. This could be simpler. To me, type is a global setting preference; how I like to read. Color is a mode depending on light in my environment. I find that they are connected is a mistake. Again, I cannot rationalize why this is a ever present hovering button. I’m having a hard time imagining why I would have the need to adjust my type frequently enough to justify this UI sitting above my book at all times. This is mind numbingly bad. At this point, please god just make an API for thirdly party reading apps. You’re ruining reading on the phone and I’m locked into my large library of books.
I read at night using the dark theme option. It used to be great but the new update has changed this feature. I don’t understand why the pages have to flash a light gray when you turn the page. The whole point of the night theme is a black background with lighter letters! The flash of lighter color when turning a page is an issue for those of us that are sensitive to light changes… it will trigger a migraine! Please change this back to all dark & no color changing pages.
