I bought a 12.9 inch iPad Pro (current gen) with the Magic Keyboard to write my novel on Pages. I have used Pages on my MacBook Pro for years. The iOS version of the app has gradually gotten to be almost as robust as the MacOS version, to the point that I purchased this iPad and Keyboard to be my exclusive form of writing while traveling. However, the most recent update (Version 11.0) has made this app unusable. The input lag from both the Magic Keyboard, and the onscreen keyboard is so incredibly frustrating, that I felt compelled to write a review — as I can no longer write my book. It takes anywhere from a second to three seconds for the screen to catch up to the keystrokes I pressed. I have quit and restarted the app, the iPad, and am running the most recent versions of all software. Very disappointed. Will revert to 5-stars / write a glowing review of the app once this bug is fixed.
I love this app, (and this applies for Notes too) it’s very helpful when I’m writing books, or creating scripts. But, I have a few suggestions. I think you should be able to zoom out a little more, I think it would just be a little more helpful. Also, please make it so that “Learn Spelling” is ALWAYS there! Whenever I come up with character names and spell them the way I like, sometimes it’s close to another word and WON’T learn spelling, and then I have to tolerate the red lines, but I don’t want to disable autocorrect completely unless I mis-type. Lastly, I think you should make an option, like a little up arrow or something, so that the hot bar disappears. It’s surprising how much space it takes up if you think about it. Thanks for this app though!
Pages could be much better without the Updates! Too many changes that I do NOT like! This is true for most Apple Updates. I would probably had bought a Lenox computer if they were NOT sold by Private people. Technology is 50% good and 50% bad! Also, I do NOT trust Updates!
I used this to write my shifting script
In the latest release, there is a noticeable lag in starting to type, and especially in pasting words from another app. Didn’t exist on prior versions.
No app has ever made me what to smash my iPad with a hammer the way Pages does. It is garbage. It has no toolbars, lacks options the Mac version has, and is buggy (just try to make different headers on different pages on a document, IT DOESN’T WORK!). Better you subject yourself to Microsoft’s highway robbery demanding protection money every time you want to make a change to a document on the iPadOS version of Microsoft Word than to use Apple’s lousy free app. Then again, you get what you pay for, right?
Too many flaws to list. Anyone who has used real programs for work processing would be appalled at Apple’s simplistic Pages app. It has improved tremendously over the years, but is still cumbersome to learn. Apple’s knowledge base and help answers are inadequate.
I can’t believe the arrogance of Mac to produce apps like this. So laggy when typing, such a steep learning curve, so restrictive on the docs you can import and export, really terrible! feels like I’m using a Beta version of software. This is why I hate Mac fanboys...how dare you question what they have given us. just like the iPhone...it’s the best because Apple says it’s the best....whatever. Sad. I’m moving on to a professional writing app. (which is lightning fast btw - no pun intended) at least Pages was free with my iPad Pro...I’d never pay for this drivel.
This is awful, pain in the butt to write even a simple sentence without it bugging or moving my whole page, I’ll never use this app again
