Reviews

They are now charging and still forcing you to see ads

1
Would have given zero stars if possible. I have used Epicurious for years after having been a subscriber for over 15 years. Now they are charging $40 per year AND still loading every page with huge ads. AND after paying their exorbitant fee, I have lost over 200 of my saved recipes and of those still in my cache, over half of those no longer have titles or pictures, so I have no idea what or where to click to find my old favorites. THE WORST KIND OF DIGITAL RIP OFF, WHICH IS USUAL FOR THIS PUBLISHER, CONDE NAST.

Buggy App. Past Purchase Now Worthless. Total Rip-Off

1
This app has been plagued with bugs for years. Constantly crashes when trying to share recipes or perform searches. But hey, it was only $4.99 right? Wrong! Despite having previously purchased the app it’s new revenue model now requires a recurring monthly subscription to access any recipes saved in the past. Total rip-off!

Use

3
The use isn’t the best. The “share” button needs to be pressed many times and there've been glitches.

Better before

1
The option to leave the screen on while the app is open is no longer available and the app continuously refreshes so it closes the recipe that you have open. It makes it very difficult to use while cooking. It worked better when it was free somehow 🤷🏻‍♀️

Was free… too bad

1
This used to free and loved it! Now they make you pay $4.99- even for saved recipes on my account. Oh well, plenty of other sights to go.

Now it’s a pay app???!?!

1
I’ve been enjoying the recipes for years. Better than the typical hamburger night dinners but nothing fancy and doesn’t give you anything especially complicated or in depth for true culinary expertise, no tips, no background behind the reason why a dish comes together the way it does and now I have to pay $5 a month to get a recipe?!? Why? Just why? Plus I lost all my saved recipes. Very disappointed in a service that wasn’t worth $5 a month prior and can’t imagine it’s worth $5 a month after

Where are my saved recipes!?!

1
In the new format I’ve lost at least 25 of my previously saved recipes. I’ve searched to replace a few I can remember off the top of my head but this problem alone will keep me from using this app in the future, I’ll just save the ones I use most firstly to my phone rather than rely on the app. So disappointed! Updated 12/6/22: now every single one of my saved recipes is gone. What is going on? Went from bad to worse. The content on this app was great but the updates have been the worse. Wish I could give it a lower rating. So upsetting

Won’t Save Favorite Recipes

1
Old app saved all my favorites. The new app will not. I can find them in the search and they show SAVED, but they are not in my saved recipes. Even unsaved and the re-saved…still NOT there.

Epicurious gets greedy…

1
I’m out. So long saved messages, you served your purpose.

Since it’s gone paid, it’s HORRIBLE

1
Lost all my saved recipes and was forced to subscribe to get at least some of them back. Got them back (at least the last 100). Opened it again a few days ago, and they’re all gone again. Even if I save a new one… gone as soon as I close it and open it again. I’m going to cancel in a month (or start screenshotting recipes I like, because that’s what I’ll have to resort to). So sad and frustrating that an app/service I used multiple times a week for years is a complete failure now. STAY AWAY!
