Why am I buying points and tokens like a gatcha game to read manga? I happily pay $3 a month for Shonen Jump and would probably pay more. I would certainly do the same for Kodansha given the choice. I believe that is more than reasonable for a digital product I don’t even own and have to keep paying for to read.
When scanlators stop translating just because this hot garbage is up it feels so defeating. Don’t even bother.
Very cool I think you might
I hate you!!!!!!! i wanna read witch hat atelier and CRY!!!!!!!!! stop moving the release dates!!!! youre ruining my life!!!!!! WHA is the only reason i even have this app!!!!!
This makes no sense why not just have a subscription model wish I could give it a lower rating
Out of all the official apps for reading manga this one is probably my least favorite, namely due to which chapters you can access. For most series you get the first 3 chapter totally free and then can read more using a daily ticket that recharges daily or extra tickets you get as log in bonuses or from chests you can roll up to three times a day by watching ads. However, anywhere from about a third to halfway through a series you can only access the remaining chapters through points. Old weekly chapters cost 69 points, the newest weekly chapters cost 99 points, and monthly series are either split into 2 parts that each cost the same as a weekly, or a single chapter that is slightly cheaper than 2 weekly chapters. The biggest problem is that earning free points is painfully slow (you can get 10-25 a day), so if you’re following multiple series you probably can only get enough points to keep up with 2 weekly series at a time without buying points let alone getting through a backlog if you aren’t caught up with a series. The price of points is also exorbitant and you’re often paying the same price as you would buying the volumes on your preferred digital bookstore where you can use a better reader. The censorship they use for “mature” series is also pretty extreme and they don’t provide uncensored versions on their website so your only option for those is to just buy the volumes instead and accept the heavy lag between the simulpub and the volume releases. I want to support the authors and artists by reading the official releases of their works, but Kodansha sure doesn’t make it easy to do so on their app. Pretty much every competitor app (Viz/Shonen Jump, Comikey, MangaUp, etc.) have more reasonable set ups.
It’s appalling that you have competition with an easier subscription service model and you have this app with the pay by chapter or infuriating task for points system. Just give me a reasonable monthly subscription price and I will gladly give you my money. Please rethink your payment services
Ridiculous, complicated price scheme, especially when compared to Viz Manga and Shonen Jump apps.
Not once but twice now Kmanga has failed to actually release a simpub of witch hat atelier like promised. That along with how terrible the point system is and splitting single chapters into two purchases this company is an absolute sham.
When I heard that Kodansha was releasing a manga app, I was pleasantly surprised given that it would mean easy access to new chapters from a reputable source. But, not only is the app is clunky and frustrating to use, it’s also implemented a terrible point/payment system that means users must pay for each chapter individually. This payment model is completely inadequate given Viz and Shonen Jump having much more reasonably priced subscriptions that don’t involve paying for each chapter separately. Not only that, but they also publish new chapters to read for free. Until K MANGA can get its act together, there are better places to find chapters.
