Great app, now needs AI capabilities

4
Matter has been a great reading app, and I have enjoyed using it since it was launched. The team behind it is great and it’s fun to follow the updates. The user experience has kept improving since they launched what I miss know it is having some AI features built in. I hope the team has something up their sleeves.

Absurd pricing

1
For what this app is, a read it later app, it is absurdly priced. Apps like this shouldn’t be charged on a subscription, much less at the rates these guys are charging. This app will go the way of all the others that charge too much and will eventually die. Look for more sustainable options.

Don’t waste your time.

1
It’s a complete waste of your time. Also they read take all your data. Don’t believe such nasty apps.

users hit with subscription

5
I am surprised that longtime users were not offered a cheaper upgrade path as a reward for their loyalty. I have contacted the developer & was very pleased by the response. I encourage others to do likewise. I would have been sad to give up on Matter.

Game changer

5
I’m not typically one to leave app reviews, or to pay $60/year for an app. But here I am doing both because Matter is *that* good. I was a loyal Instapaper user for several years, but less than a week of playing with the free version was enough to convince me to switch (which, I’ll note, they make incredibly easy even with Instapaper’s API limitations). The article reading functionality is good - certainly on par with other apps, and things like the natural TTS are big improvements. They’re also clearly actively working on their parser, and the couple of times I’ve reported a content issue they’ve quickly not only fixed it but let me know they had done so. Where Matter is really a game changer is the unified subscription inbox. I’ve thought for ages that surely someone could come up with one place for all newsletters coming from email, RSS, or anywhere else. And here… they did it. Once I got it set up, it’s amazing to no longer have newsletters languishing in my inbox for days at a time, especially for long form ones that I may read a few days after they come out. Now they’re all sitting there, ready and waiting for me to get to them. It’s a newer app so there are still some rough edges to be polished, but it’s already a fantastic app that I’m excited to see continue to improve.

RSS is a major flaw

3
I love so much about this app but the rss feature is almost completely useless. I have a standard rss reader app running simultaneously and it’s shows 18 articles available from my feeds for today. Matter shows two. Two! Also it says it can’t find feeds for a few urls (which work fine I every other app.) I wish I had known this before paying $60/year. (Good luck trying to find the monthly option in the app) The app is excellent in every other way but now I guess I have to have a second app just for rss since I can’t rely on Matter to actually do the most basic rss serving. I hate writing a negative review of this app but for the price the rss should be rock solid (also it’s a pretty basic feature). Will gladly change my review when app can parse rss feeds at least as well as reader could almost twenty years ago.

No more Free Unlimited Highlights

1
The only aspect that Matter outdoes Pocket (getpocket) is its unlimited highlight features. Now that the feature is locked behind Paid/Premium, good bye to Matter and let's get back to Pocket!

App is unusable

1
Loved the pitch of this app but as soon as I purchased a subscription and started adding my feeds the app became unusable. Scrolling is laggy when it works which is about 40% of the time. Always stuck synching. I have never been able to load a single article. Immediate regret.

Good app until they tried a misguided way to monetize

1
I liked this app, then they hamfisted a paywall in. They are charging me to view my newsletters. Content other people created, they are charging for. I am happy to pay for good features which they had, but now I can’t bring myself to pay to read a third parties content that I actually already pay for. This was a huge misstep and I hope you guys figure it out. You lost a customer by doing this so poorly.

Feeds locked without warning

1
I had read everything about Matter’s new premium mode (email, in-app announcement) and it wasn’t clear at all that unless you paid $60 a year, your RSS feeds would be totally unreadable. 😭
