So the idea behind this is great! I do personally think it’s too expensive for a yearly membership to be $100 but I am going to figure out a way to make do with the free version. My main gripe with this app is I have selected certain applications under the entertainment tab, for example. But I have unselected messages and the music app because I don’t find them distracting, but for some reason the app still blocks out those app. Kinda defeats the purpose. Why even have the option to select certain apps under each category if what you select doesn’t even make a difference?

this app is actually great

this app forces me to be intentional about my phone usage, as i constantly start one task and end up getting sucked into something completely irrelevant and lose track of time. i added all my highest time wasting apps to my list and i have opal on all day long 7am-10pm. when i want to do something in one of these apps i “take a break” and decide how much time i want to spend, then i go and do exactly what i meant to for the amount of time i intended, without losing track of time. for me it’s the perfect balance because i don’t want to delete the apps i love, i just don’t want to use them unintentionally. i LOVE the function that makes you wait a few seconds to choose “take a break” too. and I can customize the apps depending on what i’m working on. i haven’t gotten to the point of syncing with different focus modes yet, but i’m excited to get to know the app more in the future. thank you, opal!

Does not Work

This app does not actually block apps you’ve told it to. I don’t know why anyone would pay $99 for this.

Good app but it’s too expensive.

The price of Pro is very surprising. I would expect $4-5/ month and I would happily pay that. The price you have now is expensive. Also it’s lacking a bit. The schedules are awesome, but I want Opal to lock me out of an app if I’ve used it for too long that day. I want to be able to set an hour time limit for social media. Once I hit that time don’t allow me to open social media until the next day.

Costs money

I was not expecting it to cost money. I personally spend a lot of time on my phone doing unnecessary things when I could be doing more important things like spending time with my family or doing school work. When I saw this app I was so excited and was eager to get it and set it up. I took the quick quiz and was so excited. Then at the end I was disappointed to see that it would cost money. I am only 15 and I don’t have the money to pay for a prescription every month. If I was an adult this wouldn’t be a problem. But the people who spend most of their time on their phones (and need this app) are usually young teenagers like me who don’t have money to pay for a prescription. If you don’t mind paying a prescription this app is perfect for you and I highly encourage you to get it but if you are like most teenagers who can’t pay for it this app won’t help.

Free Trial and Safari

Hey. I would like to try the app. But, safari is not added to the list, which is the main app that is distracting for me. Also, the subscriptions do not have the free trial.

Opal broke the cycle.

The simple fact that you can’t get around the app block has changed my behavior. I’ve encounter the block enough that my natural inclination to mindlessly go through my phone has started to diminish. I’m getting to a point where I don’t go to open them as much since my brain knows they’ll be blocked anyways. It’s also helped me lower my usage even when it isn’t running. None have really stuck with me, but Opal has. Thank you for helping me slow down the cycle!
