It seems like Apple deilberately made OS Catalina incompatible with a number of important apps. Almost none of my Mac-compatible Steam games work with Catalina, and I've lost the ability use my entire Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office. If you can manage it, don't upgrade. Not worth it.
I have used every release of Mac OS X. Most releases brought cool new useful features, and maintained stability. The best release was Snow Leopard, which just fixed bugs, made things fast, and introduced few new features. Catalina -- in the name of security -- has removed many of our freedoms. The only new feature I like is the ability to track computer usage across devices. The disk volumes are a mess. /usr/include is gone - and you cannot build open source software as a result. Big Sur looks to be worse, as it looks like a 4 year old made it.
Update 7/16/2020 for Version 10.15.6 - this update seems to have taken care of teh overheating and battery drainage issue from Version 10.15.5. All of my applications still work normally (after all , I only use Microsoft Office). Review: Version 10.15.5 After upgrading from a seriously old OSx (Yosemite), even when my laptop is on and I am not using it, or surfing the web, or using just microsoft office products (no online video streaming), the computer gets very hot and battery drains at an alarming rate. I wish I could easily downgrade to High Sierra or Mojave without having to completely wipe the drive.
Tons of really expensive software is no longer compatable after 10.14. DO NOT GET 10.15.
My computer which is EMPTY runs soooo slow. Even typing this review is taking about 20min DO NOT UPDATE
i cannot open up ANY apps. i can't open up any web browsers either. This is ridiculous.
Just too hot,too excessive force to operated..
After updating to macOS Catalina on my Mac desktop, I am unable to upload photos from my Canon camera to the computer. The program that worked perfectly fine before the update "needs to be updated." This is the message shown: "The developer of this app needs to update it to work with this version of macOS. Contact the developer for more information."
Destroyed by this OS. I haven't seen this many beach balls since pre Y2K days. I do not think Apple should have claimed my iMac was compatible. I have nothing on it that does not come standard and it is slower than slow.
