We subscribe for Daniele Bolleli’s History on Fire. Love the content and subject matter. Best $7 subscription!
I chose the premium app because I wanted to listen to the promised series on the “Dating Game Killer”...I had listened to the teaser episode on Apple podcast app. But all I can find are more teasers. I’m canceling today before the “free” period there are plenty other podcasts to listen to without being charged even though I have to listen to commercials.
I am not going to add to all the reviews that criticize the interface. The netflix type algorithm is very frustrating... and it is easy to see how I have been categorized—LAME LAME LAME. The same podcast (that I hate) ends up first in my recommendations no matter how I change my interests. There is no way to pass or delete selections. Selection of available podcasts is not that great—I was hoping to find stuff that I can’t on my own. I have to do as much digging to find stuff I like as I do anyway. I am back to Overcast! PS it would be so great if someone would start aggregating podcasts from other English speaking countries. I have heard that Canada, all of the UK, Australia, even Germany make podcasts...in English!! Now that would be worth paying for.
Love the content but the app barely functions most of the time
Would be great if there were CarPlay integration
I had high hopes for this app but it is just too poorly designed to feel worth using. Non-intuitive, hard to navigate, slow to load, off base recommendations. It’s really hard to find anything. Browsing is a chore. I can’t even find the show I was just listening to last time I used the app and it doesn’t seem to have stored individual episodes I’ve already listened to. It does however keep prompting me to play the very few free episodes of shows I’ve browsed that are primarily subscription only (in an effort to get me hooked so I’ll pay for premium I suppose). Sorry y’all but I’m not paying for an app that works this poorly.
Doesn’t work for a whole minute before it just quits. It’s trash.
I signed up for Luminary so I could listen to the newest season of Spooked. The two stars are for the content you provided (Spooked, Stoop Talks, Celeste) but my, I winced every time I had to click the icon. Glitchy as all, slow as the day is long and don’t even think about pausing an episode and leaving the app. If you do, the app will not remember what you were listening to and just sends you back to the home screen. When you do get back to your episode, 6/10, it just restarts it. Back to Apple Podcasts. Byeeee.
Like most people, I was saddened to hear that my favorite podcast was moving behind a paywall. I figured I could try out Luminary and see if it had enough value to me for me to keep it. After reading negative reviews about the app being glitchy, I was worried it was going to be a bad user experience, but there have been a new update this month because the app has worked flawlessly for me. Some features are a little bit tricky to navigate at first, but no more so than other apps. I was pretty pleasantly surprised by how great the experience was. For now, I don’t really have a good enough reason to keep Luminary (I only listen to one of their podcasts and the season is over) so I cancelled, but if they get some more original content, I could definitely be tempted to stay on long-term.
I only have luminary for one podcast. That’s how much I love this particular podcast. If I’m going to need different apps for different podcasts that’s a terrible world I don’t wanna live in. So luminary itself is annoying for existing in the first place for this reason. New episodes don’t download automatically most of the time. It loses your places if you don’t finish an episode and starts you from the beginning. They should spend more time on fixing these issues.
