Simplifying something that seemed hard

I’ve wanted to practice meditation and have been shown over and over that I neeeed to. But it seemed hard and not fun. This app makes it accessible, easy, short if you like and makes it feel like a learning process rather than a gold medal to achieve.

Crashes every time

This is only app I have that won’t work. I deleted it restored it. It’s a memory. iPhone took it into the Apple store to see if they can fix the problem and he said please fix your app.

As someone who has always tried to get into it but never could, this app is great. Once i finally had the motivation to really give meditation a try i got this app and didnt even know what a wonderful resource it was. Great all in one place

The best app out there

This app is one of the greatest and simplest tools I’ve come across for helping myself, my friends and my clients develop a consistent meditation practice, and to begin waking up to the nature of reality and their minds. I have recommended this to anyone who has ever mentioned an interest in meditation and many have told me many months later that they are meditating daily after it never sticking before in their lives. I consider Sam as my teacher now and am so grateful for him creating this. Thanks Sam and team!! I also LOVE the Joseph Goldstein dhamma talks - pure gold 🙏❤️‍🔥

Waking Up Woke Me Up

It’s hard to even write a review considering the impact this app has had on me. I began using Waking Up in the fall of 2018 after hearing Sam Harris talk about its launch on the Tim Ferris show. I honestly wasn’t a fan of Sam Harris before but the things he shared about meditation, the mind, and about being distracted resonated with me. After listening to the podcast, I completed the 50 day course and began to see reality in a new way. I began to notice all that was going on around me from moment to moment that I was totally oblivious of before. I began to see beauty in the little things. I began to get a glimpse of what consciousness really is and who I really am, in a way I never experienced before. Nearly 5 years later, in 2023, I am use Waking App to meditate nearly every day. I see every day and every moment - my existence - as an incredible gift. I used to have such problems with anger, anxiety, depression and worry. It took me to dark places. However, through mindfulness, these problems have melted over time. My relationships have deepened and I live in gratitude. I owe so much of that to this app and the simple practice it provides. I am being as sincere as I can here. This is a powerful and liberating practice. I am so thankful for Sam. The features of the app are honestly great too. The meditations with other teachers, the theory, the specialized meditations - all incredible. I don’t think I can ever use another app. I deeply thank the Waking Up team. My life was once very dark, but you have woken me up.

Impossible to delete

Really did not love the content of this app, was fairly basic in my opinion. That’s fine, it was not for me, but two stars for being stubbornly in my notifications and I had to try to delete it multiple times to fully get rid of the reminders and notifications. Not my idea if a useful app, more annoying than illuminating.

Wake up!

I’ve been using this app for over 3 years now, though I’ve had a meditation practice for longer. The app has grown in that time, and now has many different teachers, discussions and lessons. The regular guided meditation by Sam Harris is diverse, and instructive. Sometimes the concepts seem esoteric at first, but once you’re able to find the intended insight, it’s incredible. There’s plenty of advanced level concepts utilized, and Sam does a great job building up the practice for beginners through the introductory program. There is an option for a free membership for those who cannot afford it, and though I’ve been in dire straits financially at times, I’ve always paid for this app because it has such a meaningful and profound impact on my everyday life. This app truly has something to offer for anyone who’s interested in developing a meditation practice. Whether you’re interested in zen, meta, vipassana, or any other form of meditation, this app has what you’re looking for with world class guidance. Cannot recommend this app strongly enough. Thank you to Sam Harris, and the Waking Up team.

Forget everything you thought meditation is

It can actually be so much more. As a scientific and logic minded person I have avoided mindfulness and meditation. However what and how Sam Harris guides you through, is a fascinating exploration of who and what 'you' truly are, and taught in a way that I can't get enough of.

Insightful

The benefits of meditation such as lower stress and better sleep, among many others are seen as a by product of meditation rather than the goal. I’m only 10 sessions in but I think a goal of meditation is a better understanding of your mind which has many benefits. I have tried a few other apps. I used Headspace for years and in my experience it only takes you so far. Many of the other apps are a little hokey in my opinion. Sam Harris gleans what makes sense from a modern perspective and what is derived from science. I highly recommend this app.
