There are a lot of podcast apps out there now, but a lot of them astonishingly lack features that really seem useful. You can speed up or slow down the playback, set timers for the playback, skip forward and back easily. Podcast discovery is easy, you can comment on podcasts and episodes... the list goes on. These are features that exist in other apps, but often are scattered around — a couple features in this app, a couple features in that app. What a pain. CastBox has all the stuff I’m looking for in one package!
Happy to see the variety of podcasts. Been using this app for years and it’s great. No problems and I can download my favorites for my walks. Without a doubt five stars
don’t have power to continue and pause and suddenly lose hole file that for example half downloaded
I want my podcasts on my watch so I can leave my phone at home. Apple Watch is just a remote for this app Quiet response is appreciated. Allow for Apple Watch Downloads in a timely fashion (not overnight plugged in) and I will be back
*UPDATE* So I recently came back, never cancelled my subscription though. I do like this player. However - there's still no "Play Next" function. When I play a podcast the only option for •Up Next• is the next episode of the podcast, en masse. Can we please have a "Play Next/Play Later" option? I don't think I'm the only person who has a series of different podcasts that I listen to everyday. The list changes every day depending on what is released that day. With the "Play Next/Play Later" options I can set up it so that it's easy to set the list every morning in less than a minute. Is that possible? Pretty please? Than you •————————End Update————————• What differentiates "Discover" "Listen" & "Subscribe" so much that the three of them need individual tabs? And why can we edit the order of podcasts everywhere except the "Subscribe" tab‽ That's the most important list and it's stubbornly the one that cannot be edited 🤨 •— Note to Teresa - I found "night mode" within the first few minutes of going through settings. That's one of the good things about your app. Also - I'm aware of how many steps it takes to put a podcast onto the playlist. That's one of the bad things - too many steps. I feel that anywhere I see the title of a podcast I should be able to add it to the playlist with a single tap without opening up another screen —• Update - I've been using it now for about a week. There are definitely a few things I've noticed that could use improvement (I won't be switching away yet however): 1. If play gets interrupted while the screen is off, the play button on the lock screen does not start play again. I have to unlock the phone & open the app & press play. Very inconvenient, especially whilst driving or working. 2. Unable to rearrange podcasts in the "Subscribed" section. I even started the 7 day free trial hoping that that option would be available therein. No such luck so I shan't renew for the paid app. This, to me and many others (judging from multiples of reviews) is an essential function. 3. To me there are too many steps to add a podcast to a playlist. Anywhere I see the title of a playlist I feel there should be the option to add a podcast to a playlist. And for that matter - I can reorder the podcasts in the playlist so I know you guys know how to include that function. 4. When I add a podcast to the playlist autoplay still plays the next podcast in the "Subscribed" list. ***Or it plays the next podcast in that individual podcast titles list*** So again I have to unlock my phone, open the app and select the next podcast in the playlist. • This negates the usefulness of having a playlist. • This also negates the usefulness of being able to arrange the order • This also makes me scratch my head and mutter, "why can I arrange a list who's order is meaningless yet I can't arrange the list who's order actually is relevant?" And people all around me look at me and wonder why I'm muttering about lists... 5. This is minor - it's slower to load audio than the Apple podcast app. Don't know why & it's not a deal-breaker but it is certainly noticable. Other than those 4 main issues I still prefer this app. If these things don't get addressed in future updates though I will end up going looking for an app that doesn't have these omissions. It is definitely quite inconvenient to have to keep opening the app at the end of almost every podcast. ——————————————————————— Like everyone else here I got tired of the Apple app and searched for a new one in the middle of an app, just 2 minutes ago so this is an incomplete review. First thing I want to say which I haven't seen mentioned anywhere and I'm glad it's an included feature - It Has Night Mode! Thank goodness for that. Now, the one problem I have (& I want to be clear - I read about a dozen reviews and their responses so I went through pretty much all the tabs and settings, which is how I found Night Mode) is that I went into playlists both in the app and 3D touch. It says that I have nothing in playlists and below that it says add an episode now! Tapping as Add now does nothing. There's no + symbol, there's no list of my subscribed podcasts with a + symbol next to it - it's just a blank page. That's curious. Having read a bunch of reviews I feel pretty confident that I'll get an answer here and that fact on and of itself is probably the main reason why I downloaded the app even though I wasn't sure if it had Night Mode. Other than that - so far so good 👍🏼👌🏽😁
I never rate apps, but I love this one so much that I had to! I tried half a dozen other podcast platforms before Castbox, but none of them let me organize things the way that I wanted. Castbox, on the other hand, has so many different organization options that you can really personalize it however you like. Some features that I love include being able to create and organize playlists without having to download the episodes, categorize your subscribed podcasts, mark favorite episodes, filter your playlists based episodes you have and have not listened to, and so much more. There is a slight learning curve to figure out all the features, but it’s not too bad. I was a little thrown off by the fact that there’s not a queue like in most other podcast apps, but I just created a “Queue” playlist that honestly works even better for me than actual queue features. The one suggestion that I have for the app is to potentially let users filter their playlists based on episode lengths. A lot of times I’m looking for an episode that’s just long enough to last a car ride, so being able to filter by length would be awesome! Anyway, this app is phenomenal and if you’re on the fence about trying it out, definitely download it!
Agree with several other reviews re: glitches and suggestions. I also find the discussion/ comment function clunky and nearly unused. Compared to other podcast apps, hardly anyone discusses episodes on Castbox. Also, comments seem to be threaded at only 2 levels (OPs and replies). Of lower importance, I'd also like better tools for more precise navigation within episodes (more than just back 15 sec, forward 30 sec, and an imprecise slider). Update 1: When podcasts finish, the app often begins replaying the same episode rather than stopping or moving to the next unplaced episode. After recent app update, app no longer even opens. Tried uninstalling/ re-installing (at risk of losing all subscriptions and data). Still no. No useful info for this issue on their help site. Update 2: Developer requested screenshot of the app not opening. Funny.
The option just disappeared. ONE STAR until fixed...
Luke’s English podcast is the best one It’s like having a private teacher in your phone. He is funny and creative You will never get bored of his classes
