This free, well-designed app helped me 2 yrs ago when I had to figure out which FODMAPs worsened my IBS. I thought I knew all my problem ones, but kept having flareups. After tracking my symptoms and food in Cara for 2 months, I figured out I was also sensitive to oligos in wheat. Since my reactions came 24-72 hrs later, I didn’t spot the pattern until I had the data clearly in front of me in Cara.
Very helpful to track what upsets my stomach as well as a great tool and data to bring to my gastroenterologist
This app lets you track everything that you put in or that comes out of your body, so you can easily see connections between things you're eating and how it's making you feel, physically and mentally. For me it's also been a great low key reminder to drink more water, which is great. Cara is an awesome food tracking app that's focused on your health and wellbeing, rather than something trivial like losing weight like many other food journal apps!
First off, this app is very helpful for tracking meals, what’s in those meals (potential food intolerances), and symptoms. All of these are ready to use with no ads for free which is AWESOME. Now, for where it needs improvement: The app size itself is small but the “documents and data” adds up. Since I have an account I would expect my data would be associated with my account rather than taking up space on my phone. The trends for food on the best 3 and worst 3 days needs improvement and clarity. Lately I find the trends aren’t particularly helpful. In the settings for them, what does “hide duplicates” even mean/do? How is the symptom score generated? I wish there was a way to personally adjust/impact that, just a slider of how I feel / how bad I feel my symptoms are. Food searching needs a lot of work: When searching for ingredients it doesn’t seem to be listed by relevance or frequent use. For example, if I’m looking for sugar, I have to scroll just to find generic white sugar. Also if something’s near the bottom, the keyboard covers it. You can add custom ingredients but you can’t remove them, so if I misspelled something, that copy will always be there even if I never used it. Favorite dishes are in the order they were added with most recent AT THE BOTTOM. 1. It would make more sense if recently added were at the top. 2. It would make sense to order them by frequent & recent use. 3. There’s no ability to search favorite dishes, I simply have to remember where things are in the list. Exporting food and symptom records as .csv for doctors never came back after the major update, they can only view the desktop interface. Though I’m very thankful for this app and would encourage others to use it, it definitely needs improvement. Some of these issues also only arose after the major update roughly a year ago. Please bring them back. If the app was sufficiently improved I would voluntarily support it, but please keep the basic functionalities free for everyone.
It keeps on crushing, I couldn’t access the app
I have been using Cara for years. I started using it when I was having GI issues and needed to track symptoms to figure out what the deal was. Even though I’ve (thankfully!) solved those issues I’ve seen Cara evolve to so much more. Now I use it to track my mood, period, migraines, exercise, sleep, and more. I’ve probably downloaded 10 health tracker apps and always end up coming back to Cara because it’s the easiest and most powerful free app you’re going to find. Highly recommend.
I like the app but entering the food could be easier. For example, if you go to a restaurant chain it should recognize the ingredients. Also would be nice if it would have landscape as well as portrait.
I have spent two weeks diligently recording my food and digestive life and now I cannot share or send the info from the app. I also cannot log out or restart the app in order to reset it. Customer service is spotty.
Love the prompts, simple, very well designed
So far, I haven’t had to buy anything and it tracks everything I need. I’m still within the first week, but so far, so good. Thanks for this app! ❤️
