The LA news apps cover more relevant news in Ventura County. The news here are mostly high school sports updates.
The quality of reporting has declined over time. Pretty much every article is a fluff piece as in there isn’t any articles of the issues that plague Ventura county. Also, they have removed the options of leaving comments there by silencing any un consenting views.
I pay for a subscription to the newspaper, but every time I open the app, I get ads to buy a subscription. Also, I find I’m not allowed to read some articles, I get an error saying the article is only available to subscribers. I close the app, re-open and sometimes I get the article, but still sometimes not. What am I paying for if I can even read the news, who has time to play with signing in and out to read an article?!?
Don't subscribe. I did months ago and still asks for me to subscribe and login... I've "only got 2 more articles" etc.etc Also 2 apps same Vc star? Y? Very confusing as 1 app knows my login, other makes it harder to sign in and says I haven't paid.!
I appreciate the local news stories, but I was disappointed when a paid subscription does not remove the ads. The choice of advertisements is especially annoying, reminds me of internet clickbait.
Lousy on a good day…. Rather than provide news, content is mostly prep sports and Opinion submissions. Staying logged in can be a royal pain, as well.
The Ventura County Star fraudulently renewed my subscription without consent or authorization. My promotional subscription expired in March 2022 and I made sure auto subscription was off. Then, in December 2022, they charged my iTunes account 9.99 without my consent or desire to subscribe. I’ve reached out to them numerous times with regard and they are totally ignoring my requests for cancellation and refund. Such a total fraud! I’m contacting the BBB with this matter as I am not going to let this go as they may hope.
Useful
The app is so easy to use. I love that you can click on specific articles and forward them to someone else who might be interested. Even the comic strips! Always on my phone by around 4am, so can access today’s paper as soon as I wake up. Highly recommend.
My university newspaper was infinitely better than the Star. you need to lower your advertising rates so that you can steal the revenue from the throwaways. You will make a profit… also, All of your reporters need to read the AP stylebook
