X VALUES, the latest app from Wine Spectator, tells you exactly what red, white, or sparkling wines to seek out next time you're shopping for a bottle. Whether you are a wine geek or new to the wine world, X VALUES will surface Wine Spectator's most highly rated and easy-to-find wines that don't break the bank.
A great idea horribly executed. Seriously? Not even a search? Why not include all value wines from your database?? Oh right, because you might lose some of the 2.99 a month subscribers to you other app (like me!). Pretty useless app, doesn't help when your in the store looking at less expensive wines and would love to reference a WS review using this app....not going to happen. Please head back to the drawing board. (From a very long time WS supporter including magazine and monthly app)
Pro's 1. Easy to navigate 2. Quick sort by red, white, sparkling 3. Manageable number of wines to peruse and consider while shopping 4. Favorites list (that I assume is sticky when the lists refresh) Cons 1. Minimal filters 2. Limited wine recommendations. Would love to see the short list that exists today and then longer lists based on filters (eg grapes, country, vintage, etc) 3. Needs an opposite of favorite. A list of wines you tried from the list and perhaps don't want to try again. Maybe a scaled system to remind yourself of your enjoyment level for the wine.
Will likely use occasionally. Would like to see errors corrected in how wines are aligned to "grape". For example, Castle Rock Pinot Noir shows under "other reds" vs Pinot noir. Same with Erath and many others. Also, the ability to notify of errors like this cannot be done from the app. I guess the only way is to document here in the Apple Store.
I really like the idea of this app by Wine Spectator. I'm not sure how it has a 5 star rating right now(perhaps from the fake reviews) but it has the potential. Consumers nowadays want budget wine ideas on hand and this could be a great tool. It needs more work though, the interface is poor and there are not enough wines. Split it up by regions , or grape - not points... Or at least give us the option to filter. Take a look at some of the popular budget wine websites. Be creative, this app looks like it took less than a week to make. I love the wine spectator magazine but this app is not up to that level. Please update this app more, it can be great!
Easy to use and great suggestions on my limited wine budget!
Great free app from WS that allows easy searches of high rated everyday drinking wines. Nice interface - easy to use when shopping at the wine store!
This a beautifully designed app that delivers essential wine information in an aesthetically pleasing interface. Easy to use. The only shortcoming is the inability to sort selected favorites.
This app is absolutely fantastic and exactly what I have been needing/looking for. I'm a wine lover on the go and this app is perfect for me- beautiful, easy to use- love it!!
I know this app is relatively new, but it would be great to have a search function where I can either type in the name of a particular wine or search by scanning the label or barcode. If this is going to be the standard for helping novice wine consumers make purchasing decisions, the functionality will have to catch up that standard.
Long overdue and really needed app. All the info in one place - easy to scroll, flag, and reference.
