Simple the Best

5
I purchased Day One 365 days ago. I know that because I have journaled every day since I made my purchase. I use to write down my activities and thoughts about everything that is a part of my life. I also use it to journal the best books that I am reading. This would be an excellent tool for any student. You could organize journals for each of your courses of study. Of course, you must pay the premium to have multiple journals, but that's when the journalling process comes alive. I use my iphone, my macbook pro and my icloud to keep everthing within arm's reach, whenever an idea pops into my head. Some times I just post a note and come back later and flesh it out. I had been looking for a tool that would help me record and organize my independent study. I am 73 years old. When the memory begins to dim, Day One bridges the gap. I have entered more than 300,000 words this first year. And I can generally find anything that I have written in seconds or at least within a few minutes by using the tagging and key word searchs. Don't hesitate, just get it. It's easy, intuitive and integrates with your documents and photos and favorite websites. It does it all.

My Favorite Apple App

5
I would classify this app under the essentials. Of all my Apple apps on my laptop, this one is my favorite.

No longer can use across Macs a downgrade

1
I liked this app for year but it has now been downgraded so that one ha to purchase a subscription in order to use it on more than one Mac, unlike every other Mac application. I use to start an entry on my laptop and then continue it on my desktop. When one creates a new version, one should add features not subtract them from an older version. I will simply now create a document in Pages or Word so i can access it across my Macs.

Life Changing

Using Day One has allowed me to connect with myself and the ways that I conduct my life on a daily basis. It is genuinely a gift that keeps on giving and over the last ten years I am still grateful at having such an opportunity to continue to grow and shape my own life.

One of the few apps I can say actually improved my life

5
I've been using Day One for years now and can say that it's one of only a handful of Apps that I've ever stuck with for that long and that I can say has positively impacted my life. I have enough history built up now in the journal that I love seeing my "On This Day" section every day. I use the related widget on my iphone for that. I'm not a big social media user anymore but in a lot of ways I use Day One like that, I add photos that I think are cool or want to remember, videos of my family, all sorts of things. I log my read books in it with an image of the cover and a little review. Even when I go a little too long between journal entries I'm still using it pretty regularly for all of these things. I appreciate the updates the developers have made over the years, especially around being able to add media to the journal entries. Keep it up!

Just Keeps Getting Better

5
I began using Day One over seven years ago after switching from MacJournal (which Day One seamlessly imported into its program), and it is by far the one app I can't be without. As a lifelong journaler, Day One makes it easy to quickly create bulleted lists and/or checklists, change fonts and header styles, incorporate photos, and within seconds find specific information via the Search option. The sample templates (found in the dropdown File menu) can make one's overwhelming "To Do" list suddenly feel far more manageable. It helps the user focus on Priorities vs. Tasks, has a TODAY section, and room for additional text and references. I would highly recommend Day One to any serious journaler or writer or those who need help with organization.

Everytime I try to use the app and get 50 words into writting the application freezes up.

Great Option for Casual Journaling!

4
Day One is working really well for my purposes! I use it mostly for daily/semi-regular journaling, as well as tracking my mood/symptoms (just started SSRIs and I want a record of how I feel different!)It's simple enough to not feel overwhelming at all, and fleshed out enough to cover all my major bases. The tagging feature is amazing! I can organize all my different entries and thoughts better than anything else I've used. The calendar and map view options I see being helpful, but honestly I don't get much out of them as far as practical use. Nice to look at, though. :) The only problems I have are pretty minor: 1. iCloud Sync/Backup is behind a $34.99 paywall. I'm slightly paranoid that I'll lose all of my data/entries if anything happens to my computer. It's not crazy expensive, but I'm in college and can't really justify that expense right now. 2. Hardly any formatting options. This is a very minor complaint, like I said, but the actual journal format is pretty much just paragraphs from what I can figure out. This wouldn't be a problem if I could insert my own images and resize, but a) any picture you insert is automatically taking up the absolute most amount of space it can without distorting, and you cannot resize them or format them and all, and b) you only get one picture per entry unless you pay for the $34.99 premium. As someone who prefers a kind of pseudo-scrapbook style of personal journaling, #2 was a bit disappointing, but overall I am very happy with this app! It doesn't throw premium in your face every 10 seconds like some other apps, there's no ads, it's easy to use, and you have unlimited entries!
