I don’t live in America, preferring to live in interesting, developing nations instead, which means that I cannot get a lot of the items I’m used to buying in the States. As a result, I make all of my own vegan cheeses, mayo, aioli, margarine, tofu, and more, but I’m often living in countries where there are foods I’ve never seen before, don’t know how to prepare. This app allows me to explore an item, say, BEETS, where I am presented with lots of great recipes accompanied by the most amazing photos. I always get so hungry using this app. The app is very well designed (thank goodness for that!), super easy to navigate, and even though I’m still just using the basic, free membership, I’m loving everything I find here. For only $20/year, hell yes I’m gonna subscribe. Whomever designed this app should be applauded. You can see how hard they thought out every step, thinking of almost everything, making it easy and fun to explore. I just posted this app on one of my vegan FB groups. I can’t say enough about this app. It is masterfully easy, so pleasing to the eyes, and jam packed with great info. SUGGESTION: A “Foods from around the world” would be grand. For example, I now live in Belize, where a popular root vegetable, cassava, is a staple. When I lived in Madagascar, we called it mangahazo (MAN-ga-HA-zoo), but prepared it totally differently. I’d love to see a section featuring these oft overlooked foodstuffs.
I would have given this 5 stars but the collections don’t work on the app. Huge faux pas. I read some other reviews and apparently people have been complaining about this for months and it still is t working.
The app was unable to save any favorites, making it VERY difficult to sort through thousands of recipes & multiple attempts to contact support always came back.
I’ve been using Food Monster for 5 or 6 years. I am a avid cook and as a 40-year vegetarian then vegan, it is the first place I go to for ideas. I always recommend the site to anyone who is curious about a vegan diet. I can’t praise the all the contributors and One Green Planet enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
Bought the paid app - cannot access the collections. Contacted support multiple times, finally told it was “being worked on and will be fixed in a future build”. When? In what decade? I paid for access to the collections, and I don’t have access. Not happy! Can see recently posted recipes, but unless you’re proactive and bookmark what you see, you will ultimately not have access to them. Recipes are posted by a variety of people, and some recipes are virtually unreadable or unusable. Is there a test kitchen? Definitely not a happy customer right now.
App would shut down at times. Seems like every recipe I had tried to make had ingredient/s missing or steps missing or out of order, unclear. Very frustrating. Forget asking any questions in the comments section, they went unanswered. If you want a variety of recipe ideas without clear instructions, they do have that. Someone needs to review the recipes or test before posting!
Don’t purchase this app! You cannot cancel once you have it.
The concept is great but the app just doesn’t function correctly. It’s constantly reloading as you scroll through the recipes. It will then freeze and shut off. You never get to go through the recipes bc it will keep happening as soon as you start scrolling. Also, on the majority of recipes I did get to click on, it doesn’t provide you with the nutrition information. There’s no breakdown available which is the main reason you pay for a subscription.
It’s not free at all. You can’t see a single recipe unless you pay a subscription. You can sign up for the free trial, but if you forget to cancel they will automatically bill your iTunes. Also, if you read through some of the five stars you can tell some of them work for the company. Like Joebobble.
Upon trying to scroll through the featured items after downloading, it kept pausing to load, skipping back up to earlier recipes, and was unresponsive at times. When I finally found a recipe I liked the preparation instructions were locked behind a paywall along with nutrition and serving size information. There are far better vegan recipes apps out there, many without a paywall.
