This app is absolute garbage: - stops playing randomly - STARTS playing whenever you make a phone call, so that you have to exit the phone call and pause the app - STARTS playing whenever you try to play a song in iTunes or a video in any other app, then prevents that video from playing I love great courses but this app is so bad that I will not listen to it. How can it be this hard to build a working app? Music, Podcasts, YouTube all work just fine.
The courses are great but the app design is not. Each time to click on a course it locks up and then takes 30 seconds to open the course. Feels like I’m in the 1980s. Wish they would fix this.
I love great courses plus, but the iOS app is long overdue for updates. The app frequently freezes when attempting to click on courses, lectures or scroll through the app. Additionally it would be nice to add a feature to watch the video in a corner of your screen and the course books should be exportable so I can work on them in an app like notability
It does not keep track of where I left off the last time I watched a course. This is a long running bug, and it is really annoying. But the content is very good. Always something interesting to learn.
The content is amazing. But I am about to cancel my subscription because the app is so glitchy - both on the iPad and the Apple TV. After about 10 minutes of a lecture, the audio and video stop syncing and I have to close and reopen the app, or just stop watching the video and only listen to the audio. This seems like something that could be fixed for the price of the subscription.
Originally I was going to give this three stars, but seeing that my complaints have been made by others a year ago, I dropped it to one star. TGC content is phenomenal, and the content is worth paying for. However, they have clearly not been as thorough about the quality of the app as the quality of their lectures. Where is the money Academics work for cheap. This app would be acceptable in 2010. For one, nearly any interaction with the content, like changing menus or adding a course to your watchlist, causes the app to freeze for over 5 seconds. Secondly, the forward/backward option on the iPhone Lock Screen is not customizable, and the default setting it to skip lectures, rather than rewind playback, which really hinders the ability to conveniently listen to the audio.
Long wait to talk to someone and once able to talk, the person wasn’t able to solve my problem.
The content is great but the app is awful. I use Bluetooth headphones to listen and every time I pull up the app it jumps either forward or backwards in the lecture by several minutes, or it skips forward or backward an entire lecture! There’s also no way to start a lecture series over, so every time I want to relisten to one, every single lecture starts at the last 30 seconds of the lecture. And since there’s no easy way to move backward and forward without pulling up the app, I’m forced to pull up the app and it skips time/lectures, as mentioned above. The whole thing makes it almost not worth the great content.
Disappointing that multiple courses in the regular Great Courses catalog are NOT available in GC Plus. I started a subscription to GC+ ‘assuming’ the whole library of GC would be accessible but it’s not. Available courses are fantastic. Despite a few audio/video sync issues & download glitches the educational opportunities are remarkably well done by both production & professors. I’m not sure that I will continue a subscription since my subject search in GC+ is often scant while other & better courses are in the regular GC catalog.
Content: Like so many, I have found myself drawn to learning new things and starting passion projects during the pandemic. I have always been a fan of academia and the collegiate approach to learning and have found this content to be very rich and engaging. I highly recommend it. UI: it’s ok, works decently well, and I notice that it keeps improving
